CapSpecialty is seeking an Assistant Underwriter for our Southeast Surety Team who will be responsible for all aspects of assisting in the underwriting process including gathering, screening, analyzing and evaluating information on new and existing accounts. Make underwriting decisions within their letter of authority. Make recommendations to Underwriters for accounts outside of authority and provide superior customer service to CapSpecialty partners.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Achieve a quality book of business by underwriting new business and renewals within authority to ensure the risk meets underwriting guidelines and all required materials and documents are present before submitting to an underwriter.
  • Be a conduit for image-system workflow process, delegating account needs to entire department according to authority levels required. Ensure timely responses to agents by managing and prioritizing account needs. Support agents by responding to inquiries, assisting with technical and underwriting issues, and providing effective problem solving. Ensure superior customer service by marketing products and being available to deliver support and service for agents and account needs.
  • Contribute to team effort and work closely with the VBO to meet the company service and quality standards by accomplishing related results and duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed that pertains to the specific line of business.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, multi-task, problem solve, pay attention to detail and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of basic industry concepts and word processing software programs and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to work independently, while working as a part of a team.
  • Knowledge of financial statements and ability to analyze financial information.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree, or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of surety industry experience in an administrative, underwriting support role.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May be required to lift up to 15 lbs. at times.
  • May require business travel up to 15%.
