What is a remote UI developer?

Remote UI developers are professionals who design and implement user interfaces for websites or applications while working from a location outside the traditional office environment. They use front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React or Angular to create interactive and visually appealing user experiences. Working remotely, they collaborate with teams through digital communication tools, manage code repositories online, and often have flexible schedules. Remote UI developers need strong communication and time-management skills to be effective in a distributed work setting.

What does a remote UI developer do?

As a remote UI developer, you work from home to design the front-end of web applications. Your responsibilities center around creating a smooth user interface. UI and UX typically go hand in hand for developers. You translate wireframes to actual code for the visual elements of an application, work with graphic designers to implement their designs, and ensure the app is easy to use. Optimizing the speed and scalability of the app is also part of your responsibilities as a remote UI developer. This job requires you to work in tandem with back-end developers as well.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote UI developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote UI Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and UI design principles, typically supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, version control systems like Git, and responsive design tools is commonly required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills help you stand out, especially in a remote work environment. These skills are crucial for delivering high-quality user interfaces, collaborating effectively across distributed teams, and ensuring project success.

How do remote UI developers typically collaborate with design and backend teams to ensure seamless project delivery?

Remote UI Developers often use collaborative tools like Slack, Jira, and Figma to communicate effectively with design and backend teams. Regular virtual meetings, design hand-off sessions, and code reviews are essential to keep everyone aligned and address potential issues early. Working remotely requires proactive communication and clear documentation to bridge any gaps caused by physical distance. By participating in agile sprints and daily stand-ups, Remote UI Developers help ensure that user interface components integrate smoothly with backend services and match the intended design specifications.

What is the difference between Remote Ui Developer vs Remote Front End Developer?

While both roles involve front-end skills, a Remote Ui Developer primarily focuses on designing and implementing user interfaces with an emphasis on aesthetics and user experience. In contrast, a Remote Front End Developer concentrates on coding and developing functional, interactive web applications. The roles often overlap, but the UI Developer leans more toward design, whereas the Front End Developer emphasizes coding and functionality.

Job description

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced UX/UI Designer to support a career-site platform that enables organizations to create custom-branded experiences, showcase employer brands, and highlight job opportunities across parent, subsidiary, or affiliated brands.

This contractor will execute product design work across a defined capability backlog, beginning with chatbot functionality. The role will focus on creating reusable components for a modular design system while accounting for the technical constraints of a content management system.

The ideal candidate is a strong UX and interaction designer who can independently translate broad or ambiguous requirements into accessible, responsive, production-ready web experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Execute UX/UI design work across a career-site product backlog in partnership with Product and other cross-functional stakeholders.

Design the initial chatbot experience and contribute to additional priorities following onboarding.

Create new reusable components for a modular, component-based design system.

Design components that work effectively within the technical and authoring constraints of a CMS.

Design and refine career landing pages, job-board experiences, and custom campaign landing pages.

Define responsive behavior and maintain functional parity across desktop and mobile experiences.

Support platform-wide theming, branding, accessibility, and SEO considerations.

Create interaction flows, prototypes, component states, and detailed designs in Figma.

Maintain consistency across component libraries while accommodating different client brands and use cases.

Independently prioritize work, resolve ambiguity, and maintain design throughput for time-sensitive client opportunities.

Collaborate with Product and technical stakeholders to ensure that proposed designs are feasible and ready for production implementation.

Qualifications

Must-Have Skills

Four or more years of product design or UX design experience.

Strong UX and interaction-design capabilities, rather than primarily visual, graphic, or brand design experience.

Experience designing reusable components for modular or component-based design systems.

Experience with responsive and mobile-first web design.

Experience shipping responsive marketing pages, product pages, or comparable web experiences into production.

Working knowledge of WCAG and ADA accessibility standards.

Experience applying accessibility principles to web experiences, interaction states, or reusable components.

Experience designing within the technical constraints of a CMS.

Understanding of how CMS content structures, authoring requirements, and platform constraints affect component design.

Advanced proficiency with Figma, including component libraries, variants, and Auto Layout.
