Job Description:
Sr. Software Engineer with DevOps
Location: Irving, Texas (Remote)
Employment Type: Contract
Role Overview
This role supports a large-scale, multi-year modernization initiative to replace a legacy mainframe loan origination system with a new platform built on an AWS microservice architecture. As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer, you will be a key contributor on one of four core delivery teams, driving a significant cultural and technical transformation. This is a high-visibility, fast-paced project offering the chance to build a modern platform from the ground up, with a long-term goal of full-time conversion.
Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a senior full-stack contributor, maintaining a 50/50 split between front-end UI and back-end services development.
  • Develop and maintain complex web-based applications and enterprise systems using TypeScript, Node.js, and Angular.
  • Build and enhance features within a microservices architecture, leveraging GraphQL for service integration.
  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable software solutions on AWS, utilizing DevOps fundamentals to unblock the team and ensure seamless CI/CD.
  • Participate in technical design, solutioning, and decision-making in a high-pressure, collaborative environment.
  • Write automated tests and conduct thorough testing to deliver high-quality software each sprint.
  • Provide mentorship to other engineers, promoting software engineering craftsmanship and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with product owners, UX designers, and peer engineers to refine work and enhance product delivery.
Required Qualifications
Experience: A background in senior full-stack engineering with at least 7 years of hands-on experience delivering high-quality, maintainable software.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with TypeScript, utilized across both front-end and back-end services.
  • Strong experience with Angular for front-end development.
  • Experience building Node.js / TypeScript-based microservices.
  • Hands-on experience with GraphQL, including schemas, resolvers, and service integration.
  • Proficiency with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Some exposure to DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipeline adjustments and automated testing within pipelines, to help avoid team blockers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Apollo GraphQL federation.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture using Kafka or similar messaging systems.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CDK.
  • Knowledge of workflow engines like Camunda.
  • Financial services or lending domain experience.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve development efficiency.
Work Environment
  • The position is remote during the contract phase. Candidates must reside near Baltimore, MD; Dallas, TX; or Wilmington, DE.
  • The role operates in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment with significant pressure to deliver.
  • Engineers are part of a product team structure that includes 4-6 engineers, a product partner, and a UX designer, with shared DevOps and SDET resources.
  • The ideal candidate is a confident communicator who thrives in collaborative, high-accountability settings and prioritizes team success.
