Remote Triaging information

What is remote triaging?

Remote triaging is the process of assessing and prioritizing requests, issues, or cases from a distance, often via phone, email, or online platforms. It is commonly used in healthcare, IT support, and customer service to determine the urgency of problems and decide the next steps without an in-person evaluation. Remote triage professionals gather relevant information, categorize issues based on severity, and direct them to the appropriate specialists or departments. This approach helps organizations efficiently manage resources and respond quickly to high-priority situations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote triaging specialist?

To thrive as a Remote Triaging Specialist, you need a solid background in clinical assessment, decision-making, and patient communication, often supported by a healthcare degree and relevant licensure such as RN or LPN. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and triage software is typically required. Strong listening skills, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure accurate patient prioritization, effective remote care, and enhanced patient safety in a virtual environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote triaging roles, and how can they be addressed?

Remote triaging professionals often encounter challenges such as accurately assessing cases without in-person evaluation, managing high call or message volumes, and maintaining effective communication with both patients and clinical teams. To address these, strong protocols, up-to-date digital tools, and ongoing training are essential. Additionally, collaborating closely with healthcare providers and leveraging secure communication platforms help ensure that urgent cases are escalated appropriately and patient safety is maintained.

How to become a remote triaging nurse?

To become a remote triaging nurse, you typically need a valid registered nurse (RN) license, relevant clinical experience, and strong communication skills. Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) can enhance your qualifications, and familiarity with telehealth platforms is often required. Many roles also require the ability to work independently in a home environment and adhere to privacy regulations like HIPAA.

Job description

*Please note, we are open to remote candidates for this role.

Your Impact on our Mission

Zocdoc's most important asset is our people. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Billing team, you'll play a meaningful role in making sure our financial foundations are as robust and innovative as the healthcare marketplace and the growing suite of products that help providers connect with and care for their patients. You will lead the evolution of our billing systems into a flexible, best-in-class platform capable of supporting diverse and fair pricing models-ranging from our core marketplace to new AI-driven innovations like Zo, our AI Phone Assistant.

Your work is critical to ensuring our providers have clarity regarding their payments and can easily see the immense value Zocdoc brings to their practice. By architecting a scalable platform that automates complex manual workflows for our Finance team, you will remove friction and enable the business to reinvest revenue into new opportunities for patients. As a technical leader, you won't just be writing code; you'll be driving high-visibility projects from conception to launch, mentoring talented engineers, and making the architectural decisions that will define how Zocdoc scales its billing platform for years to come.

You'll enjoy this role if you are...

  • Motivated by solving complex financial and architectural puzzles that have a direct impact on company revenue and provide transparency to our providers.
  • A technical leader who thrives on end-to-end ownership-driving projects from the early stages of research and technical design through to team planning, implementation, and a high-impact launch.
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented, especially when it comes to data integrity and system reliability.
  • A collaborative leader who excels at cross-squad collaboration and finds joy in bringing people together to solve a challenge.
  • Someone who thrives on collaborative problem-solving and expects to learn as much from your world-class coworkers as you teach them.
  • The type of person who takes genuine pride & pleasure in ensuring the numbers foot every single time.

Your day to day is...

  • Leading the architectural direction of Zocdoc's billing system as we build for the future - thinking how we can scale billing as the number of providers, patients, and products we support grow.
  • Building, maintaining, and improving modern, event driven workflow billing workflows and pricing algorithm systems.
  • Collaborating with Finance, Product, & Design to figure out how we can solve for provider and internal billing needs with efficient technical solutions.
  • Working with your engineering peers to define and implement best practices that ensure high code quality and system reliability for all new features and services.
  • Ensuring the ongoing accuracy and stability of the billing engine and financial data, and triaging any issues that arise (always with the team's support).
  • Integrating the latest edge GenAI tools and technology to optimize technical planning and coding efficiency across your team and the broader engineering organization.

You'll be successful in this role if you have...

  • Meaningful (8+) years of engineering experience building and scaling high-performance backend services, ETLs, and APIs within event-driven, distributed systems-ideally in environments where data reliability and integrity are paramount.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native environments (e.g., AWS) and the desire to own your team's infrastructure (as code!).
  • The mentality of an owner with an unrelenting desire to drive projects to completion; you view ambiguity as an opportunity to provide technical clarity rather than a blocker.
  • Integrated generative AI tools into daily workflows to automate tasks, foster innovation, and maximize productivity.
  • Leadership experience steering teams toward best-in-class testing, deployment, and observability practices that amplify output and quality.
  • Superb communication skills! You believe in keeping all of your stakeholders and teammates in the loop and know that multiple mediums of communication are the key to success.
  • A growth mindset rooted in humility, inclusivity, and curiosity-you value diverse perspectives, enjoy learning from your mentees, and lead by example to foster a collaborative engineering culture.
