Field Enumerator (Part-time)

Location: Primarily Remote (iPad provided) with field travel

Pay: $17.75/hour + mileage reimbursement

NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association that represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries, and directors of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FIELD ENUMERATOR

As a Field Enumerator, you play an important role in supporting agricultural producers by collecting accurate, reliable, and confidential data used to inform agricultural programs and decision-making.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Interviewing farmers, ranchers, and agricultural businesses by phone or in person
  • Conducting crop counts in designated fields when applicable
  • Recording survey responses, mileage, expenses, and hours worked using an iPad
  • Maintaining clear, complete, and timely records
  • Representing NASDA professionally and positively in all interactions

Many surveys are completed remotely from home. Some surveys require the use of a personal vehicle and valid Driver's License to drive to local agricultural operators to conduct in-person surveys or crop counts (Mileage is reimbursed).

No two days look exactly the same. This role offers variety, independence, and community engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A FIELD ENUMERATOR

  • Self-motivation and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Strong communication skills and a professional, friendly demeanor
  • Comfort speaking with people by phone and in person
  • Basic familiarity with technology (iPads, data entry, email)
  • Good time management and attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • An interest in agriculture, food systems, sustainability, or rural communities
  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle (only required for in-person field work)


SCHEDULE & FLEXIBILITY

  • Hours are highly flexible and based on availability
  • Work may occasionally include evenings or weekends
  • Workload may fluctuate depending on agricultural seasons
  • You may pick up or drop hours as needed, with advance coordination
