Job description

Senior Project Manager — Telecommunications & Low Voltage Systems
About the Role

Our client in the Data Center Construction Field designs, installs, and commissions telecommunications and low-voltage infrastructure for enterprise, data center, healthcare, education, and public-sector clients across the United States. We are hiring a Senior Project Manager to own the end-to-end delivery of those projects.

This is a fully remote, full-time, W-2 position. You run your projects from a home office anywhere in the continental U.S. and travel roughly 30% of the time to job sites nationwide — site surveys and existing-conditions audits before the work starts, quality and safety walks while it is running, and punch-list resolution and final client sign-off at the end.

You are accountable for scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and the client relationship from award through closeout. You will direct field supervisors, technicians, and subcontractors you do not see every day.

What You Will Do

  • Own project delivery end to end: validate the estimate at handoff, build the schedule and execution plan, and drive it to closeout on time and on margin.
  • Travel to job sites nationwide (approx. 30%) for pre-construction surveys, existing-conditions audits, in-progress quality and safety walks, punch-list walks, and final customer sign-off.
  • Direct field supervisors, lead technicians, and subcontractor foremen on manpower loading, sequencing, and daily reporting — remotely most weeks, on site when it counts.
  • Own project financials: labor against earned value, material and subcontractor spend, change order origination and negotiation, progress billing, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
  • Serve as the single point of accountability for the client, with a consistent cadence of written status reports, risk logs, and look-ahead schedules.
  • Enforce compliance with ANSI/TIA-568, 569, 606, and 607, BICSI installation methods, NEC, and NFPA 70/72, along with the company and site-specific safety programs.
  • Oversee testing and certification — copper channel and permanent link, OTDR and optical loss, system commissioning — and review results before they go to the client.
  • Assemble and deliver complete closeout packages: as-builts, test results, warranty registrations, O&M manuals, labeling schedules, and final acceptance documentation.
  • Qualify and manage subcontractors on multi-site and out-of-region deployments, holding them to the same quality, safety, and documentation standard as internal crews.
  • Mentor project coordinators and assistant project managers, and help standardize delivery practice across the team.

What You Need

  • Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible project management experience delivering telecommunications, structured cabling, fiber optic, or low voltage systems projects, with full ownership of scope, schedule, and budget.
  • A track record on significant-value projects and/or concurrent multi-site programs, including work delivered outside your home region.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, project management, telecommunications, engineering technology, business, or a related field — or an equivalent combination of education, certification, military service, and directly relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Working command of structured cabling and fiber optic systems, including installation methods, termination, testing, certification, and the applicable ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and NEC standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents — architectural, electrical, and telecommunications drawings, riser diagrams, specifications, submittals, and RFIs.
  • Experience owning project financials, including change order negotiation and cost-to-complete forecasting.
  • Proficiency with project scheduling and collaboration platforms (MS Project, Smartsheet, Primavera P6, Procore, or equivalent) and strong spreadsheet skills.
  • Demonstrated success managing projects and field teams remotely, with a dedicated home workspace and reliable high-speed internet.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30% nationally, including overnight stays, and to access active construction sites.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States on a W-2 basis without current or future employer sponsorship.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.

Nice to Have

  • BICSI RTPM or RCDD certification; PMP or CAPM certification; OSHA 30-Hour Construction.
  • Manufacturer certifications (CommScope, Panduit, Corning, Belden, Leviton) and fiber test platform experience (Fluke Networks, VIAVI, EXFO, AFL).
  • Mission-critical environment experience: data centers, colocation, hyperscale build-outs, or hospital and healthcare campuses.
  • Experience with DAS/ERRCS, Wi-Fi infrastructure, access control and IP video, AV, fire alarm, nurse call, or building automation scopes.
  • Government, federal, E-Rate, or prevailing-wage and certified-payroll project experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Travel and Working Conditions

Travel averages approximately 30% of working time — typically two to six days per month, occasionally more during mobilization, cutover, or closeout. Travel is scheduled in advance around project milestones and is not on-call; overnight stays are typical, and occasional Sunday departures or Saturday returns may be required to meet Monday-morning mobilization or weekend cutover windows. All business travel expenses are paid by the company under the corporate travel and expense policy.

Home-office work involves prolonged sitting and computer use with frequent video conferencing. Job-site work involves standing and walking on active construction sites and uneven surfaces, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching, occasional lifting up to 40 pounds, work at heights and in confined spaces such as ceilings and telecom rooms, and wearing required PPE. Sites may involve noise, dust, temperature variation, and moving equipment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Conditions of Employment

After a conditional offer of employment, this position requires a background check appropriate to the role and to client site-access requirements, a motor vehicle record check, and substance screening where required by the company, by client contract, or by law. Some client sites require additional badging, security clearance, safety orientation, or health screening. Criminal history, where considered, is assessed individually — the nature and gravity of the offense, the time elapsed, and its relationship to the duties of this position; a criminal record does not automatically disqualify an applicant.

Equal Employment Opportunity

Our client is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, age (40 or older), physical or mental disability, genetic information, marital or familial status, veteran or military status, citizenship status where protected, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. We provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities and to applicants with sincerely held religious beliefs, absent undue hardship, and we prohibit retaliation against anyone who reports discrimination or participates in an investigation.

Our client is an EEOC Employer and encourages all minority groups to apply.
