Remote Tandem Developer information

What is a remote tandem developer?

Remote Tandem Developers are software professionals who work together in pairs or small teams from different locations to collaboratively design, develop, and maintain software applications. This approach, often called 'tandem programming' or 'pair programming,' enables developers to share knowledge, review each other's code in real-time, and solve problems more efficiently. Working remotely allows for flexibility and access to a wider talent pool, while still fostering collaboration through communication tools and version control platforms. Remote Tandem Developers are valued for their ability to produce high-quality code and adapt quickly to project needs.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote tandem developer?

To thrive as a Remote Tandem Developer, you need strong programming skills in relevant languages, collaborative development experience, and a solid understanding of software engineering principles. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, remote collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Zoom), and agile project management platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively both independently and synchronously with a partner are standout soft skills. These capabilities are crucial for delivering high-quality code, maintaining productivity, and ensuring seamless teamwork in a remote paired programming environment.

How do remote tandem developers effectively collaborate with team members across different time zones?

Remote Tandem Developers often work closely with partners or small teams, and effective collaboration across time zones requires strong communication and planning skills. They typically use project management tools, shared code repositories, and regular video meetings to stay aligned and track progress. Clear documentation and asynchronous communication are essential to ensure that everyone remains informed and productive, even when working hours don’t overlap. Being proactive about updates and transparent about blockers helps maintain momentum and build trust among distributed teams.

Reporting to the Vice President of Sales - Thin Film, this role is ideal for an engineer or technical professional with approximately 5 years of experience in thin-film photovoltaics who is interested in transitioning into a customer-facing commercial role.

The successful candidate will leverage their technical knowledge to develop new business opportunities, build customer relationships, and support the commercialization of materials used in Perovskite, HJT, CdTe, and tandem solar technologies.

  • Strong technical aptitude with an interest in business development and customer engagement.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working with global teams.

Preferred Experience

Experience with one or more of the following:

You have a solid technical foundation and understand the photovoltaic industry, but you're looking for an opportunity to apply that knowledge in a commercial role where you can help shape business strategy, build customer relationships, and drive growth.

Why Vital?

  • Join a global leader in advanced materials and critical metals.
  • Work directly with the companies developing the next generation of solar technology.
  • Be part of a fast-growing business supporting Perovskite, HJT, CdTe, and tandem photovoltaics.
  • Build a long-term career with opportunities to grow into broader commercial leadership roles.
