Job description

The Crane Fund is seeking an individual (advisor) who is an accredited social worker to assess the socioeconomic needs of current and new recipients of the Crane Fund in Mexico. This position will have guidance from a senior advisor of the Fund and is expected to establish a presence the community he/she serves (primarily Chihuahua and Queretaro, but may have clients in other locations as well). The advisor will determine eligibility for Fund assistance and level of need by reviewing documentation provided by the applicant and will then prepare recommendations for approval by the Fund Director and the Trustees of the Fund. The advisor will need to be able to travel to applicants' homes as necessary or by geographical area for location visits. Interviews of existing recipients and new applicants are generally by telephone with follow-up by email, mail, or fax. This position is remote located in either Arizona, Texas or New Mexico.
  • Build and manage a case load between 10 - 75 Crane Fund recipients.
  • Annual reviews for recipients include:
  • Mail annual questionnaire to recipient.
  • Verify financial documents supplied by recipient.
  • Prepare a budget sheet detailing the recipient's income and expenses.
  • Interview (in person or via phone) each recipient and assess if additional assistance is needed (i.e. new roof, kitchen appliance, etc.)
  • Prepare recommendation to the Director, Crane Fund and the Trustees of the Fund.
  • Provide information to the recipient on other sources of support available to them in their local community.
  • Remind recipient to "spread the word" in their local community about the Fund to former work colleagues;
  • Promotes the Fund and is an ambassador for the Fund.
  • Conduct home visits with at least 75% of recipients each year.
  • Provide input on current budgetary standards used to evaluate costs of basic needs for recipients such as cost of monthly food, transportation, clothing, etc.
  • Maintain a working file for each recipient and ensure that contact information (mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address) is up to date.
  • Maintain bank direct deposit instructions for each recipient.
  • Inform recipients of extra (holiday) payments made by the Fund.
  • Review, on a quarterly basis, the pension fund roster for ex-associates that have passed away and determine if that person was receiving Fund assistance. If so, discontinue Fund assistance. Determine if there was a surviving spouse and transfer Fund assistance to the surviving spouse.
  • Recruiting new applicants to the Fund:
  • Inform the applicant of the nature of the Fund and its requirements and approval process.
  • Ensure that the application for assistance is complete and accurate.
  • If acceptable, write up a report and recommendation for the Director, Crane Fund and the Trustees of the Fund for approval.
  • Maintain communications with potential recipients.

Required Skills:
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Computer skills / Microsoft office
  • Understanding of local and federal guidelines as pertaining to Government or State-Run benefits and Disability benefits
  • Working with the geriatric population and understanding their unique needs as it pertains to Crane Funds assistance.
  • Providing support and guidance for individuals and families regarding other benefits and services available to them through government and community resources; offer support in coping with the problems associated with aging.
  • Work with retirees in order to reduce social isolation and to enable retirees to overcome loss and bereavement when possible.

Qualifications:
  • A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited College or University in a human services field to include; social work, gerontology, psychology, sociology, human services, or other allied discipline with at least one-year experience working with the served population.
    • Master's degree preferred
  • 3-5 years' experience in relevant field of work.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Licensed as a LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) in the state of residence
  • Ability to travel to Mexico
