As of Aug 23, 2026, the average yearly pay for remote structural packaging design in Santa Clara, CA is $120,702.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $86,900.00 and $155,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is remote structural packaging design?

Remote structural packaging design involves creating the physical structure and form of packaging solutions, such as boxes, containers, or display units, while working from a location outside the traditional office or studio. Designers use digital tools and collaborate virtually with clients and teams to develop packaging that protects products, enhances branding, and meets logistical requirements. This role requires knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability considerations. Remote work in this field allows for flexibility but also demands strong communication and project management skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote structural packaging designer?

To thrive as a Remote Structural Packaging Designer, you need expertise in packaging engineering, material science, and design principles, typically supported by a degree in packaging design or a related field. Proficiency with CAD software (such as ArtiosCAD or SolidWorks), 3D modeling tools, and familiarity with prototyping and manufacturing processes are crucial. Strong communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills help in collaborating remotely with teams and translating client needs into innovative packaging solutions. These skills ensure that designs are functional, cost-effective, visually appealing, and manufacturable within remote, multidisciplinary environments.

What are some common challenges faced by remote structural packaging designers, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge for remote structural packaging designers is collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, such as marketing, manufacturing, and logistics, without in-person meetings. Clear communication, regular video conferences, and sharing detailed 3D models or prototypes digitally help bridge this gap. Additionally, remote designers may face difficulties in accessing physical samples or testing materials, which can be mitigated by partnering closely with local suppliers and using virtual prototyping tools. Adapting to these workflows not only increases efficiency but also fosters stronger relationships with team members across different locations.

Job description

Who we are:

Aro Homes is a thriving, purpose-driven company on a mission to redefine residential construction. Aro Homes was founded to create well designed, precision engineered homes that are beautiful, livable, and durable, while being built multiple times faster and having a positive impact on the environment.

We are a diverse and experienced group of passionate and curious designers, builders, engineers, product developers, and businesspeople who are passionate about and committed to delivering on our mission. We've demonstrated there is a massive opportunity to reduce waste and improve sustainability while building homes in a fraction of the time it takes traditionally. We utilize a repeatable, multi-disciplinary, and product-driven approach which is unique in the industry. We are funded by world-class investors who care about transforming industries for the better, including Eric Schmidt's Innovation Endeavors. If you share the desire to leave a lasting positive impact on the world and to join a strong culture of intelligent, passionate people, then let's start a conversation.

What you will be responsible for:

We are looking for an experienced structural engineer to join our integrated architecture and engineering team. As a Structural Engineer, your responsibilities will include designing foundations, creating permit and construction documents, and addressing manufacturing and field RFIs for each home. With the opportunity to manage up to 10 projects concurrently, you will contribute to scaling our processes efficiently. You will also play a crucial role in expanding our home product line, which will include designing various components of our home including light-frame wood modules and architectural steel elements.

This is a hybrid role working with our remote design team. You may work from our manufacturing facility in Sacramento, our company office in Mountain View, or from home. You must be able to make frequent visits to our project sites in the Bay Area (currently Mountain View, Menlo Park, and San Jose) and occasional visits to our Sacramento manufacturing facility.

What you'll do:

  • Develop a deep understanding of all aspects of the product, including design for manufacturing, transportation, and assembly.
  • Design and document project-specific structural elements, including foundations, for each home project.
  • Coordinate with architects and engineers to deliver fully coordinated, constructable designs.
  • Perform site observation, review submittals, and respond to manufacturing and construction RFIs.
  • Create structural engineering tools, systems, and processes to expedite the design and documentation process.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with Field, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Design teams.

Who you are:

  • You have strong technical expertise and can use experience to creatively solve unconventional engineering challenges.
  • You are highly detailed and can visualize how all the pieces of a building go together.
  • You are a team player who is willing to roll up their sleeves and help others to meet the team's goals.
  • You have the ability to work cross-functionally with teams such as engineering, design, manufacturing and site operations to successfully manage projects from strategy through to execution.
  • You have a passion for continuous improvement and want to make buildings better for the people who build them and use them.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Licensed Civil PE in California
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in designing light-framed wood systems, architectural steel components such as stairs and canopies, and foundations.
  • Ability to apply your expertise in novel ways, exploring new approaches and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
  • Experience with BIM systems such as Revit.
  • Experience creating tools and processes for an engineering group.

What we offer:

  • Opportunity to join an outstanding start-up team and grow a purpose -driven company from the ground up.
  • Competitive salary package.
  • Medical/dental/vision benefits
  • Equity in the company.

At Aro Homes, we are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We are an equal opportunity employer, and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation, please do not hesitate to let us know.
