Remote Structural Packaging Design information

What is remote structural packaging design?

Remote structural packaging design involves creating the physical structure and form of packaging solutions, such as boxes, containers, or display units, while working from a location outside the traditional office or studio. Designers use digital tools and collaborate virtually with clients and teams to develop packaging that protects products, enhances branding, and meets logistical requirements. This role requires knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability considerations. Remote work in this field allows for flexibility but also demands strong communication and project management skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote structural packaging designer?

To thrive as a Remote Structural Packaging Designer, you need expertise in packaging engineering, material science, and design principles, typically supported by a degree in packaging design or a related field. Proficiency with CAD software (such as ArtiosCAD or SolidWorks), 3D modeling tools, and familiarity with prototyping and manufacturing processes are crucial. Strong communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills help in collaborating remotely with teams and translating client needs into innovative packaging solutions. These skills ensure that designs are functional, cost-effective, visually appealing, and manufacturable within remote, multidisciplinary environments.

What are some common challenges faced by remote structural packaging designers, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge for remote structural packaging designers is collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, such as marketing, manufacturing, and logistics, without in-person meetings. Clear communication, regular video conferences, and sharing detailed 3D models or prototypes digitally help bridge this gap. Additionally, remote designers may face difficulties in accessing physical samples or testing materials, which can be mitigated by partnering closely with local suppliers and using virtual prototyping tools. Adapting to these workflows not only increases efficiency but also fosters stronger relationships with team members across different locations.

What is the difference between Remote Structural Packaging Design vs Remote Packaging Engineer?

Remote Structural Packaging Design focuses on creating the physical design and structural integrity of packaging using CAD tools, primarily for aesthetic and functional purposes. Remote Packaging Engineers have a broader engineering role, including testing, structural analysis, and compliance. Both roles often work remotely and require similar technical skills, but Packaging Engineers typically have a more technical and analytical focus.

Job description

Structural Engineer โ€“ Steel Structures amp; Bridges

Location: Greenville, SC (Relocation Available) or Remote for the Right Candidate

About Bridge Brothers

Bridge Brothers designs, engineers, fabricates, and constructs custom steel bridge systems for municipalities, national parks, energy companies, private developers, contractors, and industrial clients across North America.

Every project is unique. Our engineers work closely with detailing, fabrication, construction, and executive leadership to solve complex structural challenges from concept through installation. As one of the fastest-growing bridge companies in the industry, we're building an engineering team that values technical excellence, practical problem-solving, and collaboration.

The Opportunity

Bridge Brothers is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to help lead the design and execution of custom steel structures and bridge projects.

While bridge experience is certainly valuable, it is not required. We welcome engineers from structural steel, industrial facilities, manufacturing, heavy civil, commercial buildings, energy, marine, transportation, and other structural engineering environments.

If you have a strong foundation in structural analysis and steel design and enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, we'd love to talk.

This is a highly visible role offering significant autonomy, direct collaboration with executive leadership, and the opportunity to influence engineering standards and processes as our organization continues to grow.

Key ResponsibilitiesStructural Design amp; Engineering
  • Lead structural design efforts from concept through fabrication support.

  • Perform structural analysis, engineering calculations, and design reviews.

  • Design steel members, connections, support structures, and foundation interfaces.

  • Develop engineering packages, calculations, technical reports, and supporting documentation.

  • Review and approve engineering deliverables for quality, accuracy, and constructability.

Project Execution
  • Collaborate closely with detailing, fabrication, project management, and construction teams throughout project execution.

  • Review shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and technical submittals.

  • Provide engineering support during fabrication and construction by resolving technical questions and design challenges.

  • Coordinate with customers, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies as required.

Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers.

  • Help establish and improve engineering standards, workflows, QA/QC processes, and best practices.

  • Support estimating and business development with technical input during project pursuits.

  • Manage engineering priorities across multiple concurrent projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • 5+ years of experience designing steel structures, bridges, industrial facilities, heavy civil infrastructure, commercial buildings, manufacturing systems, or other complex structural projects.

  • Strong understanding of structural analysis and steel design principles.

  • Experience collaborating with fabrication, detailing, and construction teams.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.

  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required.

Experience with AISC, AASHTO, ASCE, ACI, IBC, or similar structural design standards is beneficial but not required for candidates with strong structural engineering experience.

Why Bridge Brothers?
  • Work on unique, custom-engineered structural projectsโ€”not repetitive production design.

  • Join one of the fastest-growing bridge companies in the country.

  • High level of ownership, autonomy, and technical influence.

  • Direct collaboration with executive leadership.

  • Opportunity to help shape the future of the engineering organization.

  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.

  • Flexible work arrangements, including remote opportunities for exceptional candidates.

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • Paid time off and company holidays

  • Professional development and career growth

  • Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates
