Job description

Company Overview

Docusign brings agreements to life. Over 1.5 million customers and more than a billion people in over 180 countries use Docusign solutions to accelerate the process of doing business and simplify people's lives. With intelligent agreement management, Docusign unleashes business-critical data that is trapped inside of documents. Until now, these were disconnected from business systems of record, costing businesses time, money, and opportunity. Using Docusign's Intelligent Agreement Management platform, companies can create, commit, and manage agreements with solutions created by the #1 company in e-signature and contract lifecycle management (CLM).

What you'll do

Our STaaS (Storage-as-a-Service) NoSQL & Blob platform team sits within Cloud & Production Engineering and partners closely with Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM), Product & Technology (P&T), DTS, and PLG. The team builds and operates the foundational NoSQL and object storage platforms that power Docusign's global agreement workflows, spanning Azure (Cosmos DB, Blob Storage, GovCloud), Google Cloud (Firestore, GCS), and emerging multi-cloud capabilities. We hire people with a broad set of skills who want to work on platform solutions at scale, while ensuring world-class reliability, security, and cost efficiency for our storage and data platforms. Docusign is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our NoSQL & Blob STaaS platform team. This role owns the strategy, delivery, and operations of our core NoSQL and blob storage services, including availability, performance, security, and cost optimization across Azure and Google Cloud. You will lead a high-impact engineering team responsible for: Defining and delivering multi-cloud storage abstractions and APIs that decouple product teams from specific cloud substrates. Owning SLOs, incident response, and RCAs for our NoSQL and blob platforms, in partnership with SRE, security, and compliance. Driving deprecations and migrations (for example, legacy Cassandra, MongoDB, or Cosmos DB patterns) to modern, governed platform offerings. Establishing strong partnerships with Microsoft and Google for roadmap alignment, capacity planning, and joint incident management.

This position is a people manager role reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering.

Responsibility

  • Build and lead a sustainable, high-performing engineering team through hiring, coaching, retention, and thoughtful organizational design

  • Define and execute a multi-year strategy for NoSQL & Blob STaaS that balances operational excellence (SLOs, incidents, DR, cost) with platform roadmap (APIs, abstractions, deprecations, migrations)

  • Own the reliability, availability, and performance of our NoSQL and blob platforms

  • Partner with architecture, security, and compliance to define and enforce guardrails

  • Lead platform initiatives that reduce risk and cost

  • Collaborate with partner teams (product engineering, SRE, finance, security, and vendor partners)

  • Manage the engineering lifecycle for the team

  • Conduct design and code reviews and raise the technical bar for distributed storage systems

  • Ensure high-quality engineering practices, including testing, automation, observability, and capacity planning

  • Define and track engineering KPIs (for example, incident counts, MTTR, SLO adherence, cost efficiency) and drive continuous improvement

  • Create a culture of learning, experimentation, and ownership that encourages engineers to tackle hard problems in distributed systems, storage, and multi-cloud infrastructure

Job Designation

Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation)

Positions at Docusign are assigned a job designation of either In Office, Hybrid or Remote and are specific to the role/job. Preferred job designations are not guaranteed when changing positions within Docusign. Docusign reserves the right to change a position's job designation depending on business needs and as permitted by local law.

What you bring

Basic

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building large-scale, highly available distributed systems or data platforms

  • 5+ years of experience as an engineering manager leading backend, infrastructure, or platform teams

  • Experience designing or operating NoSQL and/or blob storage systems (for example, Cosmos DB, Cassandra, Firestore, DynamoDB, Azure Blob, GCS, S3 or equivalents)

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure and/or Google Cloud), containers (Docker), and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes

  • Experience in at least one modern programming language (for example, C#, Java, Go, or similar) and infrastructure-as-code and automation

  • Experience driving cross-team initiatives, including incident management, RCAs, and systemic reliability improvements

Preferred

  • Deep expertise in public cloud storage and data platforms, especially Azure (Cosmos DB, Blob, GovCloud) and Google Cloud (Firestore, GCS)

  • Experience building or owning platform abstractions that decouple application teams from specific cloud providers (for example, internal APIs, SDKs, or storage gateways)

  • Experience with cost optimization for storage and data platforms, including lifecycle management, archival strategies, and capacity planning

  • Familiarity with security and compliance requirements for data at scale (for example, encryption, key management, network isolation, and governance in regulated environments)

  • Experience leading teams responsible for mission-critical services with 24x7 availability, including on-call programs and SRE practices

  • Working knowledge of DevOps practices and tooling (for example, CI/CD, observability stacks, configuration management)

  • Experience working with or within large platform organizations, and with cloud vendors, on joint roadmap and incident efforts

  • A track record of building inclusive, high-trust teams and mentoring engineering leaders

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of partnering with product, operations, and leadership stakeholders
