What Does a Remote Statistical Programmer Do?

As a remote statistical programmer, you use programming techniques to produce useful data sets from raw data. In this role, you may evaluate the programming needs of each project, use validation techniques to ensure the accuracy of all data sets your programs make, and manage both a database and the operating environment of your software. Remote statistical programmers often work from home and collaborate with other programmers through video calls, voice chat, or remote office software. This job is also known as SAS, which stands for statistical analysis system programming, and companies may advertise under either title.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Statistical Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Statistical Programmer, you need strong proficiency in statistics, data analysis, and programming languages like SAS or R, typically supported by a degree in statistics, mathematics, or a related field. Familiarity with statistical software, clinical trial data standards (such as CDISC), and regulatory submission requirements is often necessary. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective remote communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams. These competencies ensure high-quality data analysis, regulatory compliance, and seamless teamwork in a remote environment.

How do Remote Statistical Programmers typically collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working remotely?

Remote Statistical Programmers often work closely with biostatisticians, data managers, and clinical research associates using collaborative tools such as video conferencing, project management platforms, and secure data-sharing systems. Regular virtual meetings are scheduled to discuss project progress, address data or programming issues, and align on analysis plans. Clear documentation and version control are essential to ensure seamless teamwork and maintain data integrity. Effective communication skills and proactive updates help bridge the physical distance and contribute to successful project outcomes.

What is a remote statistical programmer?

A remote statistical programmer is a professional who uses statistical software and programming languages to analyze data, typically for research, clinical trials, or business insights, while working from a location outside of a traditional office environment. They are responsible for managing, cleaning, and organizing large datasets, and for developing programs that generate statistical analyses and reports. Remote statistical programmers often collaborate with statisticians, data scientists, and project teams using online communication tools. This role requires strong skills in programming languages such as SAS, R, or Python, and attention to detail when handling complex data. Working remotely provides flexibility but also requires good time management and communication skills.

Job description

Summary

Yelp empowers millions of small and local businesses to manage their online presence and connect with customers. Businesses choose Yelp because we offer unique tools and insights designed specifically to help them grow. Our Product and Engineering teams work closely with local businesses to understand their needs and deliver innovative solutions that drive success. Our commitment to connecting people with great local businesses has never been stronger. We are seeking a visionary and strategic Principal Product Manager to lead the transformation of our Sales & Customer Success platforms through AI. In this high-impact, executive-facing role, you will set the vision and direction to empower more than 2,000+ sales and customer success organizations, driving over $1B in revenue.

You will shape how our teams operate, reimagine customer engagement, and deliver breakthrough impact at scale by owning three critical areas: orchestrating innovative, AI-powered internal workflow tools to supercharge team performance and efficiency (think account intelligence, meeting insights, automation); expanding cutting-edge, customer-facing AI bots that blend automation and the human touch for millions of business owners via chat, voice, and SMS; and launching and scaling strategic pilots with our go-to-market teams, leading high-visibility initiatives that validate bold AI-driven concepts and drive adoption across the organization.

If you want to define the future of AI in Sales & Customer Success, lead high-impact projects, and gain direct executive visibility at Yelp, this is the opportunity for you!

This opportunity is fully remote and does not require you to be located in any particular state within the US. We welcome applicants from throughout the US. We'd love to have you apply, even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Yelp, we're looking for great people, not just those who simply check off all the boxes.

What you'll do:
  • Foster and build a fun, diverse, and inclusive culture that reflects Yelp's values.
  • Set and articulate the vision, especially around AI by defining, championing, and evangelizing the future direction.
  • Drive strategy and execution through creating a roadmap, breaking down the vision into actionable steps, and delivering across 5+ engineering teams.
  • Deliver tangible impact executing with urgency, ensuring we innovate rapidly and exceeding business goals.
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment while engaging with SVPs of Sales/CS, Revenue Operations leaders, and engineering heads to align priorities and accelerate progress.
  • Communicate with executive leadership providing monthly updates and insights to C-suite on vision, strategy, and progress.
  • Champion internal workflow excellence by identifying and solving pain points for sales and CS teams with transformative tooling.
  • Pilot and scale AI-powered solutions including design, test, and roll out successful pilots with go-to-market teams.
What it takes to succeed:
  • A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent work experience is required.
  • Visionary leadership and ability to set ambitious strategies and inspire teams around a bold, disruptive vision.
  • Executive savvy specifically skilled at influencing and aligning with senior leaders to solve complex, high-impact problems.
  • Deep AI fluency, understanding of the latest in AI, voice, and chat automation for both internal tools and customer interactions.
  • Build-or-buy judgment to know when to develop in-house versus leverage external solutions to move at speed and scale.
  • Exceptional communication and ability to synthesize complex ideas into clear, actionable insights especially comfortable presenting to SVP and C-level.
  • Strong technical partnership to work closely with engineering leads to define platform roadmap, ensure stability, and scale solutions.
  • Track record of delivering high-impact outcomes and experience running fast, multi-team initiatives in complex organizations.
What you'll get:
  • Compensation range is $207,000 and $377,000 annually. You may also be offered restricted stock units and benefits.
  • This opportunity has the option to be fully remote in all locations across the US.
  • You can find more information about Yelp's five star benefits here!
