Staff Software Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Advanced Engineering team in Burnaby, BC or Tacoma, WA reporting to the Senior Manager of Engineering. This team is focused on building a next-generation Network Security platform and this is a greenfield initiative where you'll help define the architecture, drive innovation, and build secure, scalable systems that bridge networking and security in the cloud.  You'll work closely with a world-class team of engineers and product leaders to deliver high-performance, policy-driven access and connectivity solutions 

Be a Contributor - What You'll Do

  • Architect and build distributed systems and microservices usingGolangandKubernetes
  • Design and implementcloud networking components, includingIPSec tunnels,cloud VPNs, andsecure overlay networks
  • Develop scalable, secure networking services for hybrid and multi-cloud environments
  • Collaborate with product and platform teams to define and deliver SASE-adjacent capabilities such as identity-aware access, policy enforcement, and edge security
  • Integrate with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) to enable dynamic, policy-driven connectivity
  • Lead technical design reviews, mentor engineers, and drive engineering excellence
  • Contribute to the evolution of our CI/CD pipelines and observability stack

Be Prepared - What You Bring

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background incloud networking,distributed systems, andcloud-native architectures
  • Deep expertise inGolang,Kubernetes, andmicroservices
  • Strong hands-on experience with network protocols and secure communication (e.g., TCP/IP, TLS/SSL, VPNs, tunneling protocols, or similar)
  • Past project experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: 
    • High-performance packet processing or data plane development (VPP, DPDK, or similar frameworks)
    • Network virtualization and software-defined networking (OVS, network overlays, or equivalent)
    • Linux kernel networking, eBPF for observability/security/traffic control, or low-level network programming
    • Container networking solutions (Cilium, Calico, Flannel, or Kubernetes CNI implementations)
    • Network security implementations (firewalls, NAT, routing, or security protocols)
  • Experience withnetwork security,zero trust architectures, orSASE platformsis highly desirable
  • Familiarity with service mesh technologies likeEnvoy,Istio, orLinkerdis a highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code is highly desirable
  • Exposure to or interest inagentic AI systems-particularly in how autonomous agents can enhance observability, policy enforcement, or adaptive security in distributed environments is highly desirable
  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or related is required
