NetDocuments is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Solstice to help shape the next generation of our document management platform. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who brings deep expertise building production-grade full stack applications and a strong track record of leading technical direction within their team. • Serve as a hands-on technical leader for Solstice, helping define technical direction and engineering standards across the team.
  • Lead architectural discussions and make technical decisions across frontend, backend, and distributed systems.
  • Establish patterns for building scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable applications.
  • Guide the evolution of the Solstice technology stack as the platform matures and scales.
  • Drive technical initiatives that improve system performance, reliability, developer experience, and engineering quality.

  • Design and implement event-driven architectures using AWS services, Kafka, and modern data pipelines.
  • Build responsive frontend experiences that make complex document management workflows intuitive and efficient.
  • Design scalable REST and GraphQL APIs that power product experiences and third-party integrations.
  • Build content enrichment and search capabilities that surface insights across large volumes of documents.
  • Integrate AI-powered services and emerging technologies that enhance document intelligence and user productivity.

System Performance & Operational Excellence
  • Design resilient systems that maintain reliability and performance as the platform scales globally.
  • Instrument applications with logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and telemetry to proactively identify and diagnose issues.
  • Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to scalability and reliability.
  • Ensure security, performance, and compliance requirements are incorporated throughout system design and implementation.
  • Proactively identify and address technical debt across the platform.

Problem Solving & Ownership
  • Own complex technical initiatives from initial design through production deployment and ongoing evolution.
  • Solve challenges across areas such as real-time search, event-driven document processing, frontend performance, and distributed systems.
  • Evaluate architectural trade-offs across performance, usability, security, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Create clear technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, system designs, and key technical decisions.

Collaboration & Mentorship
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to translate customer and business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Mentor engineers across experience levels and help elevate technical capabilities and engineering practices across the team.
  • Collaborate with Platform Services and other engineering teams on shared infrastructure and integration points.
  • Build alignment around technical approaches and provide clear direction when decisions need to be made.
  • Lead knowledge sharing through code reviews, design discussions, documentation, and hands-on technical guidance.

Continuous Learning & Innovation
  • Stay current with modern full stack development, cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and AI-powered technologies.
  • Research and validate emerging technologies through proof-of-concepts aligned with product and engineering strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to improve both customer experience and engineering velocity.
  • Leverage modern development and AI tooling to increase engineering effectiveness and impact.

What You'll Need to Be Successful
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production-grade applications at scale.
  • 3+ years of experience providing technical leadership and influencing engineering direction and practices.
  • Deep experience with React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript.
  • Strong backend development experience with C#/.NET or Java and TypeScript/Node.js.
  • Experience designing and operating event-driven, service-oriented, and microservices architectures.
  • Experience building distributed, cloud-native systems using AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, and S3.
  • Experience working with NoSQL technologies such as DynamoDB or DocumentDB and relational SQL databases.
  • Strong experience designing REST and GraphQL APIs, including API security and versioning strategies.
  • Experience with Kafka or similar event streaming and messaging technologies.
  • Experience implementing logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and telemetry for production systems.
  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD practices, and supporting production applications.

What Will Make You Stand Out
