This role will own the target Fabric architecture, guide the migration from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric, and establish secure, scalable data ingestion and protection patterns

The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on Microsoft Fabric and Azure data engineering experience, along with the ability to lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, work directly with client stakeholders, and navigate security and compliance requirements in a government or defense-related environment

Primary Location:

Employment Type:

Contract Duration: 2.5-3 Months + 6-Month Extension Potential

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the end-to-end design of the client's target Microsoft Fabric architecture, including workspace organization, capacity strategy and sizing, and cost forecasting
  • Lead the technical strategy for migrating the existing Azure Synapse platform to Microsoft Fabric, including migration approach, data movement patterns, and sequencing
  • Evaluate and recommend approaches such as OneLake shortcuts versus one-time data copy while minimizing disruption to active initiatives
  • Design secure Microsoft Fabric networking, including private endpoints and virtual network integration, in partnership with infrastructure and security teams
  • Architect near-real-time data ingestion from Oracle ERP and multiple on-premises and Azure SQL Server databases
  • Design and implement ingestion patterns using technologies such as SQL Server mirroring and Oracle Change Data Capture
  • Define data sensitivity classification and tagging approaches at the schema, table, and column levels to protect sensitive data
  • Build the roadmap from an ingestion-and-protection-first foundation toward a full Medallion architecture and downstream dimensional modeling
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for Microsoft Fabric capability and architecture questions
  • Work directly with Microsoft's product team to validate Microsoft Fabric capabilities, availability, and constraints within GCC High environments
  • Translate technical findings into client-facing documentation, architecture recommendations, and change-request inputs
  • Provide day-to-day technical direction and mentorship to Data Engineers on the account
  • Review technical designs and code, resolve complex technical challenges, and help unblock engineering teams
  • Partner with account and delivery leadership to shape scope, staffing, and the technical roadmap as the engagement evolves

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • U.S. Citizen residing in the United States
  • 7+ years of professional data engineering experience
  • 3+ years in a Lead, Architect, or equivalent senior technical ownership capacity
  • Hands-on Microsoft Fabric implementation experience, including OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Factory pipelines, and workspace/capacity administration
  • Production or pilot experience implementing Microsoft Fabric in an enterprise environment
  • Strong understanding of the Azure Data & AI ecosystem, including Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL/SQL Server, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure OpenAI or Azure AI services
  • Experience leading a data platform migration, such as Synapse to Fabric or a comparable data platform modernization
  • Experience designing secure Azure networking for data platforms, including private endpoints and VNet integration
  • Strong SQL and Python/PySpark skills with experience delivering production-grade data pipelines
  • Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC), database mirroring, or replication for near-real-time data ingestion
  • Experience working with SQL Server, Oracle, or similar enterprise databases
  • Working knowledge of Medallion architecture and dimensional modeling, including facts, dimensions, and star schemas
  • Experience delivering solutions in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments such as CMMC, DFARS, FedRAMP, or similar
  • Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to lead technical workshops and explain architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical direction across a data engineering team

NICE TO HAVE

  • Direct experience with Microsoft Fabric in GCC High environments
  • Experience working with government or defense-industrial clients
  • Experience with CMMC, DFARS, FedRAMP, or comparable compliance frameworks
  • Experience working directly with Microsoft product teams on cloud platform capabilities and feature availability
  • Experience developing architecture roadmaps for evolving data platforms
  • Experience with enterprise cloud cost forecasting and capacity optimization
