Job Description

NBCUniversal's Intellectual Property Analytics, Operations, and Technology(IPAOT) team supports NBCUniversal's content globally. The team builds applications to support our internal legal intellectual property partners as well as platform operations on YouTube, TikTok,ย and Facebook. The applications help monitor NBCUniversal titles across search engines, data sharing networks,ย and various content deliver pipelines. The data is collected by the team and analyzed internally to supportย business-decision driving initiatives at the company.ย ย ย 

Role Purpose:

The IPAOT team at NBCUniversal is looking for aย self-motivated, highly organized, proactive, and passionateย problem solver who will assist with the design, build, and ongoing maintenance of content and rights managementย systems, as well as content delivery systems and pipelines.ย We are looking forย aย Softwareย Engineerย whoย can comfortablyย executeย full-stack development. You willย collaborateย with otherย Softwareย Engineersย andย Operationsย Analysts.ย This is a fast-paced role that interfaces with the entire department and many other internal business units and stakeholders at NBCUniversal.ย 

Responsibilities:ย 

  • Assist with software development using Python to design and build available, scalable, and secure back-end web services and APIsย for a variety of legal and intellectual property stakeholders, including software for platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Facebookย 
  • Assist in the management and troubleshooting of productionย systems and refactoringย ofย existing applications to improve business processesย 
  • Implement systems designsย and softwareย design patternsย toย write maintainable, testable,ย and robust softwareย and servicesย 
  • Integrate with third-party APIs, including designing, implementing, and troubleshooting API connections to ensure seamless interoperability between systemsย ย 
  • Manageย andย troubleshootย distributed systems and services in a production environmentย 
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:ย 

  • 3+ years of professionalย softwareย development experience with Pythonย and JavaScript (ReactJs)ย 
  • 3+ yearsof experienceย using SQL and RDBMS, preferably MariaDB or MySQLย 
  • Experience with RHEL-based Linux Distributions (Oracle Enterprise Linux or CentOS)ย 
  • Comfort with git and related processes such as git flow, forking / branching strategies, and pull requests / code reviewsย 
  • Experience developing, using,ย and understanding APIsย 
  • Professional experience in Object Oriented Developmentย 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skillsย 
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with attention to detailย 

Desired Characteristics:ย 

  • Unit testing andย mocking frameworksย 
  • CI/CD with build tools such as Jenkins/GoCD/GitHub Actionsย 
  • Experience with networking and distributed systemsย 
  • Familiarity withย NOSQL database (Cassandra)ย 
  • Understanding and using Message Queueing Systems (Apache Kafka / RabbitMQ)ย
