Job Title: Azure Security Engineer
Location: REMOTE - Spring, TX USA
Employment Type: Contact Role
Pay Range: $60/hr - $70/hr
- Role Overview/Job Responsibilities
Looking for an Azure Security engineer. We recently upgraded to M365 E5 licensing and are looking to institute all the additional security purview services with E5.
1) Azure Security Controls Oversight (Enterprise-Wide Ownership)
  • Continuously validate control effectiveness through configuration review, monitoring results, and remediation tracking.
  • Maintain clear reporting for leadership on control maturity, gaps, and remediation progress, ensuring sustained posture improvement.

2) Privileged Access Governance - PIM (Top Priority)
  • Own the PIM program for Azure privileged access, including:
    • Role eligibility models, just-in-time elevation, approval workflows
    • Privileged role scoping and separation of duties
    • Ongoing review of privileged assignments and activity
  • Ensure privileged access is controlled and auditable, aligning privileged controls with enterprise security expectations and risk posture.
  • Drive continuous tightening of privileged access pathways as Azure usage expands.

3) Azure Security Posture Management
  • Own posture monitoring and remediation strategy to reduce misconfigurations and strengthen governance.
  • Establish recurring posture reviews and ensure corrective actions are tracked to completion.
  • Partner with infrastructure and engineering teams to implement secure patterns that reduce control drift and rework.

4) Incident Management Support (Cloud-Specific Security Response)
  • Be the Azure security escalation point for cloud security incidents and investigations.
  • Assist incident response with:
    • Rapid triage of Azure security alerts/events
    • Evidence gathering and root cause analysis (Azure control failures, identity misuse, exposure paths)
    • Recommendations for containment and long-term remediation through improved controls
  • Improve readiness through repeatable cloud investigation playbooks and lessons learned. (This section reflects your stated requirement; not derived from internal files.)

5) Azure Risk Management & Compliance Enablement
  • Maintain a strong risk lens: identify Azure security risks, assess severity/impact, and ensure risks are documented and mitigated.
  • Support compliance and audit activities by providing technical control evidence, control narratives, and remediation proof.
  • Ensure Azure control implementation aligns with common security expectations (framework mapping as needed) and reduces audit findings over time.
