POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Qcells, North America, is hiring a founding commissioning leader to build its BESS Commissioning and Field Service organization. Starting in Q1 2027 with order intake and targeting H2 2028 installation projects, this role will define commissioning standards, recruit the team, and lead hands-on field commissioning. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Develop and standardize BESS commissioning procedures: Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Site Acceptance Test (SAT), grid interconnection testing, and performance guarantee testing 

  • Recruit and build: Field Commissioning Engineers (6), Customer Service & Corrective Maintenance (5), O&M / Remote Monitoring (5) 

  • Lead hands-on commissioning of BESS AC/DC systems: PCS, BMS, Geli EdgeLynx EMS, protection relays, and MV transformer integration 

  • Manage customer handover, performance test reporting, and Punch List resolution 

  • Establish and enforce site safety protocols: OSHA compliance, NFPA 70E electrical safety, Permit to Work (PTW) procedures 

  • Develop and deliver customer operations training programs 

  • Build remote monitoring (EMS/SCADA), fault diagnostics, and Corrective Maintenance processes 

  • Support Project Engineering and Engineer of Record (EOR) functions 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred 

  • 7+ years of BESS or energy storage system commissioning experience — required 

  • Hands-on commissioning experience with PCS/inverters (1500V DC/MV AC), BMS, and EMS/SCADA integration 

  • Field experience with IEEE 1547, UL1741 SA/SB, and UL9540 compliance testing 

  • NFPA 70E electrical safety and OSHA 30 certifications preferred 

  • Experience building teams and leading field organizations preferred 

  • Ability to travel nationally 50%+ 

COMPENSATION: 

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, the anticipated annual base salary for this position is: 

  • Zone 1 (Bay Area, NYC): $222,300 – $250,100   

  • Zone 2 (CA, NJ, NY): $203,800 – $229,200   

  • Zone 3 (All others): $185,300 – $208,400   

The applicable salary range is based on the employee’s primary work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, internal equity, and other business-related factors.
