What is a remote solar energy specialist?

Remote Solar Energy Specialists are professionals who work from a remote location to assist clients, companies, or organizations with solar energy solutions. They evaluate energy needs, design solar panel systems, provide technical support, and often help customers with installation processes—all through online communication tools. Their role may also involve remote monitoring of solar systems, troubleshooting issues, and advising on system upgrades. This position is ideal for those with expertise in renewable energy who prefer flexible, offsite work environments.

How does a remote solar energy specialist typically collaborate with on-site teams to ensure successful project implementation?

As a Remote Solar Energy Specialist, you will frequently coordinate with on-site engineers, project managers, and installation crews through virtual meetings, project management platforms, and shared documentation. Your role involves providing technical guidance, troubleshooting, and ensuring project milestones are met, even while working from a distance. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are essential to align remote support with field operations, maintain quality standards, and resolve challenges that arise during installation and maintenance. Regular updates and feedback loops help foster a collaborative environment despite the physical distance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote solar energy specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Solar Energy Specialist, you need a solid understanding of solar energy systems, electrical principles, and relevant industry regulations, often supported by a degree in engineering or renewable energy and NABCEP certification. Familiarity with solar design software, remote monitoring tools, and CRM systems is typically required. Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and problem-solving abilities help specialists collaborate effectively with clients and teams from a distance. These skills ensure accurate project design, customer satisfaction, and efficient troubleshooting in a remote work environment.

Job description

About us

At Haven Energy, we’re on a mission to accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies by helping homeowners install solar and battery systems. We specialize in deploying residential solar and battery systems through strategic partnerships with utilities, non-profits, and government agencies. As a fast growing, venture-backed company we’re looking for dynamic individuals who want to make a real impact in the clean energy space.

Summary of Role

You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to homeowners who want to add solar and battery storage systems to their homes. You will confidently guide customers through California’s new subsidy landscape to help them apply for a solar and storage system that is fully covered through the state’s rebate program. With every installation, you'll help spur the clean energy transition and show homeowners how they can manage their energy and reduce their impact on the planet.

A great energy specialist leads with honesty and empathy. Our customers are overwhelmed by high electric bills and unreliable power. You'll know that a solar and battery system can help alleviate these pain points but you'll also understand that it can be a big and intimidating option for the customer. You're able to keep this POV at the front of your mind as you help people, listening deeply to their concerns and always communicating the benefits of solar and energy storage in a way that makes sense to them.

What you’ll do
  • Guide customers through a seamless sales and onboarding process with a concierge-like experience
  • Take a consultative approach with each customer to identify their ability to qualify for California’s fully subsidized solar and storage system
  • Collect relevant information from the homeowner to ensure Haven’s ability to apply for subsidy on behalf of the customer
  • Utilize solar design tools such as Aurora to build an accurate solar proposal that meets the qualifications of the state’s subsidized program
  • Manage a pipeline of customers through a CRM, tracking progress and communication touchpoints
  • Meet or exceed assigned sales targets while consistently striving for customer satisfaction
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in solar sales and an active HIS license
  • Knowledge of solar system configurations and solar design software
  • Excellent communication, writing and information-gathering skills
  • Comfortable with numbers and learning new technology quickly
  • Attention to detail when documenting and completing tasks for project sign-off
  • Thrive in a fast paced, target-focused environment constantly striving to provide the best customer service
  • Motivated by hitting and exceeding targets
  • Ability to explain technical issues to customers in a simple and friendly way

Compensation

  • Haven’s Remote Energy Specialists will be compensated at the notated rate for 40 hours per week.
  • This position will have a volume bonus based on performance.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Flexible work arrangements and opportunities for career advancement.
  • A collaborative and innovative work culture focused on sustainability and making a positive impact.
