Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers developing features for Project Iris, Comcast’s next generation GIS based CAD platform for broadband network design. Iris is a core strategic system within AeGIS, the CONNECT organization that builds the tools enabling the construction, improvement, and long term evolution of Comcast’s nationwide access network. The system supports the planning and design of more than one million miles of coax and fiber infrastructure, and integrates automation capabilities that reduce design cycle time and cost. As Comcast continues deploying some of the most advanced broadband networks in the world, Iris plays a critical role in ensuring our design and deployment teams have the tools needed to work at scale. Built on modern technologies including Unity3D, Node.js, MongoDB, and AWS, Iris demands strong architectural stewardship and engineering leadership to maintain enterprise grade performance, resiliency, and accuracy. This role combines hands-on technical leadership, disciplined execution, and people development. The ideal candidate is a strong engineering leader who can drive initiatives from idea through delivery while helping engineers grow through clear feedback, coaching, and thoughtful technical guidance.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and develop a team of software engineers through regular feedback, coaching, career development, and clear expectations.

  • Drive engineering initiatives from concept to completion, including technical design, documentation, planning, timelines, risk management, architecture, execution, and operational readiness.

  • Remain technically hands-on and actively engaged in engineering work, design discussions, code quality, troubleshooting, and technical decision-making.

  • Partner with product, architecture, operations, and peer engineering teams to align priorities, clarify trade-offs, and deliver outcomes that support business goals.

  • Promote engineering excellence through strong software design principles, maintainable code, effective integration patterns, and continuous improvement of team practices.

  • Identify blockers, manage dependencies, and communicate progress, risks, and decisions with clarity and appropriate detail.

  • Create an environment where engineers receive direct, useful feedback and understand the actions needed to improve delivery, quality, collaboration, and technical craft.

  • Support hiring, onboarding, team health, and the development of a sustainable, high-performing engineering culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience as a lead engineer or technical leader developing enterprise-class, highly available, and scalable applications, including applications hosted on cloud platforms.

  • Strong hands-on experience with more than one general-purpose programming language, such as JavaScript, Python, C#, Java, or similar technologies.

  • Strong experience with more than one database technology, such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, SQL Server, or similar platforms.

  • Solid understanding of software design principles, programming concepts, integration patterns, and distributed systems.

  • Practical understanding of the infrastructure and tooling used to build, test, deploy, and run software, such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, Docker, Nomad, Kubernetes, or comparable technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize time, thoughts, priorities, and communication in a way that helps teams make steady progress.

  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on clarity, quality, and useful context over unnecessary volume.

  • Curiosity about people, motivation, team dynamics, and how different personalities contribute to effective engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience leading teams that build cloud-native, distributed, or highly available systems.

  • Experience improving engineering processes, delivery predictability, operational practices, and software quality.

  • Experience mentoring engineers across different skill levels and helping them grow into broader technical or leadership responsibilities.
