Remote Software Engineering Faculty information

What is a remote software engineering faculty?

Remote Software Engineering Faculty are educators who teach software engineering courses online, rather than in a traditional classroom setting. They are responsible for developing curriculum, delivering lectures, guiding students through assignments, and assessing learning outcomes, all via digital platforms. These faculty members may work for universities, colleges, or online education providers, and often have both academic credentials and professional experience in software engineering. The role allows for greater flexibility and accessibility for both students and instructors, catering to a global student base.

How does a remote software engineering faculty member typically collaborate with students and other faculty while working online?

Remote Software Engineering Faculty often engage with students through virtual lectures, online office hours, and discussion forums. Collaboration with both students and colleagues is facilitated by platforms like Zoom, Slack, or Microsoft Teams, ensuring regular communication despite physical distance. Faculty members may also participate in virtual curriculum meetings and peer reviews, fostering a supportive and interactive academic environment. This structure allows for flexibility, but it requires strong digital communication skills and proactive engagement to maintain effective collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote software engineering faculty, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Software Engineering Faculty, you need deep expertise in computer science, programming languages, and curriculum development, typically supported by an advanced degree in a relevant field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing tools, and collaborative coding platforms is essential. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and mentorship abilities enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. These skills ensure effective online instruction, foster student success, and maintain high academic standards in a virtual environment.

Cordova is seeking a premier Lead Senior Software Developer to spearhead the Guidewire development efforts for a leader in the insurance sector. This is a high-level "Ace Certified" leadership role designed for an expert who can drive the design and evolution of business application software serving agency customers, claimants, and insureds.

As the Lead Developer, you will be the technical authority on the Guidewire Cloud platform, bridging the gap between architectural vision and hands-on execution. Whether based in Omaha or working remotely, you will serve as the primary mentor for the engineering staff, ensuring the highest standards of security and stability.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Guidewire Excellence

  • Solution Design: Lead the design and development of complex Business Application Software, collaborating closely with Architects to build next-generation insurance solutions.

  • Guidewire Mastery: Serve as the subject matter expert for Guidewire Cloud implementations, specifically focusing on PolicyCenter and BillingCenter.

  • Security & Risk: Proactively identify and mitigate security risks within all software products to protect sensitive policyholder data.

Team Mentorship & Standards

  • Staff Coaching: Guide the programming team on development standards, secure coding practices, and modern methodologies including DevOps, SOA, and Agile.

  • Environment Oversight: Coach staff on the effective use of source control, database administration software, and integrated deployment applications.

  • Process Advocacy: Promote the adoption of advanced development environments and streamlined integration patterns.

The Ideal Candidate

Certifications & Education

  • Required Certification: Guidewire Developer Ace Certification (PolicyCenter or BillingCenter strongly preferred).

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Tenure: Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, with a proven track record of leading software development teams.

Technical Competencies

  • Preferred Experience: Strong preference for candidates with Guidewire Cloud implementation experience and InsuranceSuite Developer Ace status.

  • CMS Expertise: Experience with Umbraco (CMS) is a significant plus.

  • Methodologies: Expert knowledge of secure coding practices and diverse development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Service-Oriented Architecture).

Work Environment & Eligibility

  • Omaha-Based: 50% Hybrid work environment.

  • Remote: Remote options are available for highly experienced candidates outside the Omaha area.

  • Travel: For non-local candidates, a willingness to travel to Omaha as frequently as possible is required.

  • Authorization: Candidates must possess unrestricted work authorization (No visa sponsorship available).
