Job description

Senior Software Engineer – Java

Stack: Java 21+, Spring Boot 3.x, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Redis, jBPM | AI Agents (Claude/Cursor/Copilot)

About Kibo Commerce:
  • At Kibo, we believe the future of software isn't just written by humans—it's orchestrated by them. We are building a high-velocity engineering culture where AI tools handle the boilerplate, allowing our senior engineers to focus on high-level architecture, security, and complex business logic.

Position Overview:
  • We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Java who is an absolute expert in AI-assisted development. You are a power user of tools like Claude, Cursor, or Copilot, and you understand that "Prompt Engineering" is actually "Context Engineering." Your primary goal is to build and scale our commerce platform using Java and Spring Boot at a pace that traditional development cannot match. You will be responsible for defining the patterns that allow AI to generate high-quality, testable, and secure code consistently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Rapid Feature Prototyping: Use AI agents to move from a concept or "vibe" to a working MVP in hours, not weeks.

  • Context Management: Expertly manage IDE context (using .cursorrules, MCP servers, or project indexing) to ensure AI outputs adhere to Kibo's specific architectural standards.

  • Backend Orchestration: Lead the development of complex Java microservices, utilizing AI to handle 80% of the manual coding while you focus on the critical 20% of logic and integration.

  • AI-First Testing: Utilize AI to generate comprehensive test suites (JUnit 5, Mockito, REST Assured, Testcontainers) that ensure high coverage and prevent regressions in an accelerated delivery environment.

  • Code Quality & Review: Act as the final gatekeeper, ensuring that AI-generated code is not just "functional" but follows SOLID principles, security best practices, and performance standards.

  • Database & Messaging: Architect data solutions across PostgreSQL and MongoDB, using AI to optimize queries, manage Redis caching layers, and implement RabbitMQ event patterns.

  • Workflow & Process Automation: Design and extend business process workflows using jBPM, leveraging AI to accelerate rule authoring and process modeling.

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with the last 1–2 years focused heavily on AI-augmented workflows.

  • AI Mastery (Required): Deep expertise in prompt engineering, context engineering, and the use of AI Agents (e.g., Cursor's Agent Mode, GitHub Copilot Extensions, or specialized CLI agents).

  • Java & Spring Boot Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Java 17/21+ and Spring Boot 3.x. You must know how to prompt for the latest syntax and framework features—records, sealed classes, virtual threads.

  • The "Kibo Stack": Proven hands-on experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, and RabbitMQ in production environments.

  • jBPM Familiarity: Working knowledge of jBPM for business process management and workflow automation within a document architecture.

  • Node.js Proficiency: Ability to navigate and build in Node.js environments when needed.

  • Product Mindset: You don't just "take tickets"; you use AI to explore solutions and proactively propose feature improvements.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect AI tools to local and remote data sources.

  • Familiarity with AI-orchestration scripts or workflow automation using AI tooling.

  • Experience in Performance Tuning for AI-generated code (e.g., identifying N+1 queries, inefficient loops, or redundant API calls).

Why Kibo Commerce?
  • Velocity as a Priority: We value how fast you can build quality features, and we provide the best AI tools (paid licenses for Cursor, Copilot, etc.) to help you do it.

  • Bleeding Edge: We aren't afraid of the "New." You'll be working with Java 21+ and the latest Spring Boot updates as soon as they drop.

  • Empowered Engineering: You aren't a "coder"—you are a System Architect who uses AI to execute your vision.
