They collaborate with teams and clients using digital communication tools, allowing for flexible work arrangements. Remote Software Engineers require strong technical and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage their own schedules and work independently. This role is ideal for individuals who are self-motivated and comfortable working in a virtual setting.

What does a remote software engineer do?

As a remote software engineer, you work from home to create and develop systems using programming languages and frameworks. As part of your duties, you design and install software solutions by determining specifications and developing code. You also improve software initiatives by reviewing systems and recommending solutions, often virtually guiding clients through the database, network, and computer processes. By collecting and analyzing issues, you can develop solutions for a variety of technical problems. The remote aspect of this job means you can work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection.

Job description

Company Overview

Docusign brings agreements to life. Over 1.5 million customers and more than a billion people in over 180 countries use Docusign solutions to accelerate the process of doing business and simplify people's lives. With intelligent agreement management, Docusign unleashes business-critical data that is trapped inside of documents. Until now, these were disconnected from business systems of record, costing businesses time, money, and opportunity. Using Docusign's Intelligent Agreement Management platform, companies can create, commit, and manage agreements with solutions created by the #1 company in e-signature and contract lifecycle management (CLM).

What you'll do

The Storage as a Service team builds the internal storage platform that enables product teams to provision and use durable storage without needing to manage the implementation details of each cloud provider. The platform provides consistent control-plane, data-plane, and management-plane abstractions across Docusign PostgreSQL, Redis, Key/Value, Blob, and Universal Bus offerings. Docusign is looking for a seasoned Senior Software Engineer to join the Storage as a Service team, focused on building highly scalable, available, secure, and reliable distributed storage platforms. You will design and implement the services, APIs, automation, and abstractions that make storage easier and safer for teams across Docusign. You will work across control-plane provisioning, Terraform-based infrastructure as code, cloud-native data-plane integrations, migration paths, autoscaling, observability, and operational tooling. The role will involve building cross-cloud capabilities backed by services such as Google AlloyDB, Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server, Google Memorystore, Azure Managed Redis, Google Firestore, Azure Cosmos DB, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage, Google Pub/Sub, and Azure Service Bus. You will help create a consistent developer experience while optimizing the underlying infrastructure for reliability, performance, security, and cost.

This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Sr. Manager, Engineering.

Responsibility

  • Be open minded, forward thinking and passionate about great software platform and cloud technologies

  • Think about how to solve problems in scale and build automation to manage complex software systems

  • Build and evolve the STaaS control plane, including logical resource provisioning, lifecycle management, policy enforcement, and cross-cloud consistency

  • Develop and maintain Terraform providers, service blueprints, and infrastructure-as-code integrations that allow service teams to declare logical storage dependencies rather than cloud-specific infrastructure

  • Create data-plane abstractions using standard protocols, client libraries, sidecars, adapters, and gateway services where appropriate

  • Work across storage verticals including PostgreSQL, Redis, Key/Value, Blob, and Universal Bus, with a focus on secure and operationally consistent integrations

  • Design and integrate storage solutions (databases, object stores, queues/streams) with clear patterns for replication, backup/restore, data routing, governance, and encryption in transit/at rest

  • Design platform capabilities for multi-tenancy, account-aware storage, per-account encryption keys, account transfers, quota management, and safe access boundaries

  • Mentor and coach engineers, perform design and code reviews, and lead cross-team initiatives that raise the technical bar and platform reliability

Job Designation

Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation)

Positions at Docusign are assigned a job designation of either In Office, Hybrid or Remote and are specific to the role/job. What you bring

  • Experience with cloud storage technologies such as managed PostgreSQL, Redis or Valkey, NoSQL or key/value databases, object storage, or messaging systems

  • Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform, including provider, module, blueprint, or provisioning workflow development

  • Experience designing abstractions that hide infrastructure implementation details while preserving reliability, security, and operational visibility

Preferred

  • Passion to learn new software technologies and platforms

  • Strong experience with Agile methodologies and working in an Agile/Scrum environment

  • Passion for exploring new technologies and a proven track record as a self-starter with a strong sense of ownership

  • Experience in a SaaS environment, with practical knowledge of Cloud technologies like Kubernetes, Azure/GCP, and large-scale microservice architectures
