Shape the Future of Water Quality and Geochemistry Across Canada's Natural Resource Sector

If you are an experienced environmental geochemist who is passionate about solving complex water quality challenges, interpreting environmental data, and supporting responsible resource development, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Join ERM as an Consultant, Environmental Geochemist based in Toronto, Ontario (remote work arrangements considered) and become part of a multidisciplinary team delivering innovative geochemical and water management solutions for mining and oil & gas projects across all stages of development. This is a casual hourly position offering flexibility while providing the opportunity to contribute to meaningful environmental projects, collaborate with leading technical experts, and support responsible resource development through science-based solutions.

Water quality and geochemical assessments are critical to understanding environmental risks, supporting regulatory compliance, and informing sustainable resource development. As an Environmental Geochemist, you will play an important role in developing and interpreting high-quality environmental datasets, building geochemical conceptual models, and supporting projects that help clients address complex environmental challenges.

As part of ERM's Integrated Water Services team, you will collaborate with hydrologists, hydrogeologists, aquatic scientists, and other technical specialists in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment. Your expertise will contribute directly to environmental stewardship, scientific excellence, and project success across the natural resources sector.

What Your Impact Is

  • Contribute to water quality assessment and geochemical evaluation programs within the mining and oil & gas sectors.

  • Support the development of defensible environmental datasets through rigorous analytical review and QA/QC processes.

  • Help clients understand complex geochemical and hydrogeochemical conditions through data interpretation and conceptual model development.

  • Participate in field and laboratory-based programs that inform environmental baseline studies and monitoring initiatives.

  • Strengthen data management systems and analytical workflows that support project delivery and technical excellence.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary experts locally and globally to solve complex environmental challenges.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • MSc or PhD in Environmental Geochemistry, Hydrogeochemistry, Aqueous Geochemistry, or similar discipline.

  • 2+ years of experience organizing, managing, and executing environmental chemistry studies.

  • Experience interfacing with the natural resource industry (oil & gas and/or mining).

  • Strong data manipulation, graphing, and statistical analysis skills.

  • Experience in analytical environmental chemistry program design and QA/QC methods.

  • Strong commitment to health and safety, including adherence to established Health & Safety protocols.

  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment while also being successful working independently.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred

  • 3+ years of experience organizing, managing, and executing environmental chemistry studies.

  • Experience with laboratory testing programs, analytical methods, and environmental data validation.

  • Experience in microbial geochemistry.

  • Experience developing hydrogeochemical conceptual models.

  • Experience with reactive transport modelling.

  • Experience supporting environmental baseline monitoring programs and geochemical investigation studies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support geochemistry laboratory-based and field-based programs.

  • Compile, manage, analyze, and interpret water quality and geochemical data.

  • Implement and review rigorous QA/QC procedures to ensure data quality and defensibility.

  • Integrate laboratory analytical results into datasets and conceptual site models.

  • Assist with geochemical study design, technical evaluations, and project execution.

  • Support the development and maintenance of data management systems and analytical workflows.

  • Conduct data analyses and contribute to geochemical assessments and investigations.

  • Draft technical reports and report sections, including environmental baseline monitoring reports and geochemical investigation studies.

  • Participate in field programs supporting baseline and monitoring initiatives.

  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams across ERM's Integrated Water Services practice.

  • Contribute to high-quality project delivery while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and technical excellence.

For theConsultant, Environmental Geochemist casual position, theanticipatedhourly pay range is$35.17-$45.30CAD per hour. Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees arenot bonuseligible).
