Position Title
Accountant Senior - Grants
Remote
Position Summary / Career Interest:
This position serves as the Senior Accountant supporting the Health System Finance Director. Is responsible for the accurate general ledger activity associated with grants, related reporting, and reconciliations. Ensures compliance with grant terms and conditions, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), sponsor regulations, and internal company policies and procedures. Supports and adheres to The University of Kansas Health System's Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills with specialized expertise in grants and sponsored-program accounting.
  • Manages assigned grants and financial responsibilities in a way that supports the achievement of unit/team goals and sponsor requirements.
  • Skillfully administers, directs and allocates all organizational resources related to grant funding, using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to develop strong partnerships with program leaders and grant stakeholders.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and proactively addresses problems within scope of responsibility, while escalating issues to leadership as needed, particularly related to compliance, reporting, or financial risk on grants.
  • Takes a leading role in recommending process improvements and, upon approval, implements approved process improvements to conclusion with little direction.
  • Ability to take a lead in assigned initiatives, seeing projects through from beginning to end with little or no direction.
  • Prepares and processes assigned journal entries related to grant expenditures, reallocations, and accruals.
  • Assists with the Month End close process including reconciliations and reporting deadlines.
  • Prepares other financial schedules, performs data analyses, coordinates report distribution and miscellaneous projects including grant financial reports, invoices, and drawdowns.
  • Manages the full lifecycle of assigned grants, including award and budget setup, financial monitoring, reporting, and closeout.
  • Ensures compliance with grant terms and conditions, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), sponsor regulations, and internal policies.
  • Reconciles grant records to the general ledger and supports audits and monitoring engagements.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance Business Administration or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 3 or more years of general accounting experience.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • 5 or more years of experience in healthcare, governmental, or nonprofit environment
  • 3 or more years of experience with SharePoint workflow optimization

Preferred Licensure and Certification
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - State Board of Accountancy

Knowledge Requirements
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and general ledger management.
  • Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting and internal controls.
  • Strong analytical skills to examine financial data and identify discrepancies.
