What is a remote semiconductor device engineer?

A Remote Semiconductor Device Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and analyzes semiconductor devices such as transistors, diodes, and integrated circuits, while working from a remote location. They use specialized software and simulation tools to test device performance, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with engineering teams virtually. This role requires strong knowledge of semiconductor physics, materials, and fabrication processes, and is often found in industries like electronics, telecommunications, and computing.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote semiconductor device engineer?

A Remote Semiconductor Device Engineer requires a solid background in electrical engineering or physics, experience in device fabrication, and a thorough understanding of semiconductor physics, typically backed by a relevant degree. Proficiency with simulation tools such as TCAD, programming languages like Python or MATLAB, and experience with CAD systems are commonly expected, along with familiarity with remote collaboration platforms. Strong analytical thinking, communication, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for effectively managing complex projects and collaborating with distributed teams. Mastering these skills ensures high-quality device design, efficient teamwork, and the ability to innovate in a rapidly evolving, remote work environment.

How does a remote semiconductor device engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams despite working offsite?

Remote Semiconductor Device Engineers frequently collaborate with diverse teams such as design, fabrication, and testing through digital tools like video conferencing, shared simulation platforms, and project management software. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and version-controlled repositories ensure alignment and smooth information flow. While remote work offers flexibility, it also demands proactive communication and self-discipline to keep up with rapid project developments. Building strong online relationships and participating in virtual brainstorming sessions are key to overcoming the challenges of limited in-person interaction.

Job description

Our Story:
At COSMO, we inspire kids through innovative technology and a supportive community. Our family-centric products, such as the award-winning JrTrack Kids Smartwatch, enhance children's independence and confidence. This all-in-one device functions as a phone, GPS tracker, and music player, managed via the Mission Control Parent App, which allows parents to set safety alerts and manage contacts. Recognized as a top kids' wearable by PCMag and others, Cosmo is on the rise.
About the Role
  • Title: Technical Program Manager, New Products
  • Reports To Head of Delivery Dotted line to Product and China Operations leadership
Role Summary
Cosmo is seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager: New Products to help bring new connected hardware products to market. In this role, you will lead cross-functional program execution for complex, multi-disciplinary initiatives that span software, hardware, manufacturing, and business operations.
You will own the end-to-end program timeline for new product introductions, ensuring teams across Engineering, Product, Marketing, Customer Support, and Operations are aligned and prepared for successful launches. Working closely with engineering and hardware program managers, you will coordinate dependencies, manage risks, and drive clarity across teams so that products are delivered on time and with high quality.
This role is ideal for a Technical Program Manager with hands-on experience delivering complex hardware and software products through full product lifecycles, from early development through manufacturing ramp and market launch. You are comfortable working across global teams and partners, navigating ambiguity, and driving execution in scrappy, fast-moving environments with tight timelines.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end program timeline for new product introductions, integrating engineering, manufacturing, and business readiness milestones from concept through launch.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across Engineering, Product, Marketing, Customer Support, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure launch readiness and clear ownership.
  • Define, track, and communicate major program milestones, readiness gates, and decision points, ensuring risks and dependencies are surfaced early.
  • Partner closely with the Engineering TPM to align software and firmware execution, release readiness, and engineering risks with overall program commitments.
  • Partner closely with the China Hardware Program Lead to incorporate factory timelines, sample availability, certification milestones, and manufacturing risks into the global plan.
  • Participate in occasional after-hours coordination with global manufacturing and engineering partners to support critical phases of new product development.*
  • Identify and manage cross-functional risks and tradeoffs, facilitating timely decisions across scope, timeline, cost, and quality.
  • Ensure non-engineering teams have clear deliverables and timelines required to support a successful product launch.
  • Drive structured communication and documentation to ensure decisions, changes, and dependencies are clearly captured and shared.

* During peak development and manufacturing phases, this may include virtual calls with our China-based partners, typically held around 9:00 p.m. EST. These periods generally occur approximately 4 months per year, with calls 2-3 times per week during peak moments. Our goal is to reduce this cadence to once per week through strong program planning, clear documentation, and effective cross-functional coordination.
About You
  • You understand how manufacturing, hardware, software, and operations come together to deliver products
  • You are systems-oriented and thrive in complex, cross-functional environments
  • You are comfortable owning ambiguity and turning it into structure and clarity
  • You communicate clearly and confidently with senior leaders and execution teams alike
  • You care deeply about predictability, preparation, and avoiding last-minute heroics
  • You enjoy enabling teams to succeed without micromanaging their execution

Requirements
Experience and Qualifications
  • 7+ years of technical program or program management experience in consumer hardware, software, or connected devices
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional NPIs from planning through launch
  • Strong understanding of hardware and software development lifecycles
  • Experience coordinating globally distributed teams
  • Comfortable working with Jira, Confluence, and program planning tools
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Preferred start up experience in a fast paced, ambiguous, environment

Benefits
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and benefits including 100% employer paid supplemental medical policy
  • Remote working environment
  • An opportunity to make a significant impact in a fast-growing company
  • Generous PTO
  • Collaborative, creative, and supportive work environment
