Job Description

The Remote Security Captain provides leadership, oversight, and operational support for security services in a remote industrial environment where health, safety, and security are the highest priorities. Assigned to the Kuparuk oil field, this position is responsible for supervising security personnel, ensuring compliance with company and client policies, maintaining strong client relationships, and overseeing the effective delivery of security operations that protect personnel, facilities, equipment, and critical infrastructure. All duties are performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values.

This position follows a two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks off rotational schedule and is based at the Kuparuk oil field.

Responsibilities
  • Assign security personnel to posts and patrols while ensuring appropriate staffing levels and operational coverage.
  • Supervise daily security operations and ensure compliance with client requirements, company policies, post orders, and standard operating procedures.
  • Interpret and enforce security policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of operational, staffing, and client requirements while documenting business processes and workforce needs.
  • Translate operational requirements into functional processes and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Prepare employee work schedules and review leave requests for approval or denial.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients to address security concerns, enhance service delivery, and foster positive working relationships.
  • Receive, review, investigate, and resolve incident reports, irregularity reports, and other operational documentation.
  • Complete and maintain required administrative records, reports, and business documentation.
  • Conduct and oversee security-related investigations and recommend corrective actions when appropriate.
  • Review reports involving property damage, unusual occurrences, safety concerns, and security incidents to determine appropriate responses and corrective measures.
  • Coordinate with client representatives, law enforcement, emergency responders, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Develop, review, update, and maintain post orders, emergency procedures, and operational documentation.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to operational issues outside normal working hours.
  • Serve as Incident Commander or within the Incident Command System (ICS) during emergencies, as appropriate to the nature and scope of the incident.
  • Provide transportation services using vehicles ranging from standard passenger vehicles to buses and off-road vehicles, as required.
  • Provide emergency medical response, including CPR, AED use, basic first aid, and patient movement, within the scope of training and certification.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, or sanitation concerns and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop security personnel while promoting a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and operational objectives.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Completion of at least two (2) years of post-secondary education is preferred. Candidates without post-secondary education must possess an additional two (2) years of directly related security, military, or law enforcement experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of full-time professional experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
  • Ability to obtain an Alaska Guard License prior to employment. The applicant is responsible for the applicable licensing fee.
  • Must obtain and maintain a State of Alaska Armed Guard License upon hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver position-specific security training and conduct recurring security training in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Working knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS); completion of FEMA ICS/NIMS coursework is preferred.
  • Ability to qualify for required credentials and certifications, including but not limited to TWIC and ATF Explosives Possessor authorization, as required by the contract.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and contract-specific software.
  • Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, which may include a hair follicle drug screening, physical examination, fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants who do not reside near an approved testing facility are responsible for travel expenses to the nearest testing location.
  • Ability to reside in dormitory-style accommodations and comply with remote camp standards, including housekeeping and cleanliness requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, build positive working relationships, and communicate effectively with employees, clients, contractors, and public safety agencies.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions independently, particularly during emergencies and high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to work a two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks off rotational schedule.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for up to twelve (12) hours per shift and perform duties in remote Arctic weather conditions.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English as required by the contract.
  • Must comply with all company and client safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

 

 

CANDIDATES RESIDING OUTSIDE ANCHORAGE AREA:

Candidates residing in Alaska & the Lower 48 for any contract: For the purposes of pre-employment testing, Anchorage will be considered the point of hire (with the exception of drug testing, which will be conducted near the candidate's place of residence). Employee is responsible for any travel expenses and needed accommodations related to preemployment tasks that need to be completed in Anchorage, AK. This includes, but is not limited to, any safety training requirements, required preemployment testing and/or training such as physical, DOT physical/medical card, fit for duty, audiogram, and/or other testing required by contract/company (NSTC, APICC training, security licensing requirements, etc.).

Candidates residing in Alaska for Alyeska Contract: pre-employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate's area of residence within the state. The only exception is when the candidate lives in a region without the necessary service providers to complete all requirements.

 

Flights to Remote Locations: All employees are responsible for all expenses related to reporting to point of hire (Anchorage, AK) for scheduled trips paid for by the company for remote locations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors and Outdoors, frequently exposed to arctic outdoor weather conditions.

Noise level: Moderate to Loud.

Description of environment: This is a remote camp environment.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Physical requirements: Fit For Duty Test:

  • Lift:  Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle x2
  • Lift:  Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist x 2
  • Carry:  Carry 35 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 150 feet, self-paced
  • Allow a 60 second rest break after 75 feet.
  • Push:  push horizontally with a peak force of 60 f-lbs. with two hands
  • Pull:  pull horizontally with a peak force of 60 f-lbs. with two hands.
  • Stoop & Twist:  Perform alternate cross over toe touches x 10 each side, self-paced but continuous.
  • Kneel:  Kneel on one knee and stand.  Return to kneel on opposite knee.  Repeat alternate kneeling sequence x 3 for each knee, self-pace but continuous.
  • Stand from Supine Position Test:  From a supine, recumbent position, while wearing arctic gear, test recipient must be able to stand without assistance x 3, self-paced (this task must be accomplished safely without significant loss of balance or falling.)  Allow one re-test when there is a loss of balance considered unsafe or a fall.
  • Walk: Walk on a treadmill at 3 MPH for 10 minutes with good balance,
  • Stairs:  Climb up and down 10 steps x 2 for a total of 20 steps, self-paced.
  • Shoveling:  Perform a shovel test for five (5) minutes self-paced but continuous (i.e., no breaks) using a standard snow shovel with a 3 lb. weight attached to the shovel blade. (e.g. sand bag weight securely taped to the shovel blade.)
  • Stairs & Carry:  Climb up and down 10 steps x 2 for a total of 20 steps while carrying 30 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced.
  • Allow a 60 second rest period after climbing up and down 10 steps while carrying.
