Senior Technical Writer

Location: Hybrid, Burlington, Ontario

Position Summary: 

Are you ready to start a new journey with a team of energized professionals advancing and connecting the world's infrastructure? Bentley is looking for you!  

We are looking for a Senior Technical Writer to take on the responsibility of documenting cloud-based services infrastructure and tooling. This role encompasses developing, maintaining, and coordinating documentation, reports, and communiques for a cloud-based software application. Additionally, the position may require occasional after-hours work to promptly address urgent issues and uphold uninterrupted business operations for our users. 

Your Day-to-Day: 

  • Write, maintain, coordinate, and produce final versions of end-to-end technical software documentation, including but not limited to API Documentation, reports, readme and What's New publications, user manuals, implementation and setup guides, for both print and online formats
  • Interview subject matter experts for the purposes of gathering and dissecting relevant information for documentation
  • Use structured DITA authoring tools to create and maintain product documentation
  • Sign off release documentation
  • Make use of shared content whenever possible
  • Adhere to Bentley best practices and style guides
  • Use Git repositories to store, upload, and download publications
  • Publish via Azure DevOps pipelines and Git
  • Provide leadership through sharing best practices and style guides
  • Mentor and oversee other team Technical Writers
  • Publication and documentation process ownership
  • Participate in regular progress meetings
  • Respond to inquiries from all levels of the organization pertaining to documentation

What You Bring to The Team: 

  • Bachelor's degree in English or Communications, or certificate in Technical Writing
  • +7 years of experience as Technical Writer in software development and civil engineering applications, in an enterprise system environment
  • Experience writing for on-premise and cloud based enterprise system software
  • Experience with DITA XML and structured authoring in an enterprise environment
  • Experience with Oxygen XML Author, Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Markdown
  • Experience with Agile development cycles
  • Experience with Git and ADO
  • Proven experience working effectively independently as well as a member of a global team
  • Ability to lead process improvements and mentorship of junior team members.
  • Ability to take a technical concept and transform it into concise, accurate, unambiguous content relevant to the intended audience
  • Extensive latitude for independent judgment
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • High attention to detail and strive for excellence
  • Fluent in English
  • Initiative, a willingness to learn, and a team-focused can-do attitude
