Work Environment

This is a hybrid-eligible position, where Monday through Wednesday would be working in one of our offices, with Thursday and Friday eligible for work-from-home days. Office locations include: Reno (NV), Monterey (CA), and Phoenix (AZ).

JOB OVERVIEW:

Capital Insurance Group is seeking a candidate to join our Actuarial & Analytics Department. We look to partner with a candidate who fits with the CIG culture, excels as a decision enabler, and can effectively collect and communicate results to key stakeholders. This person will help shape the Actuarial & Analytics department, driving strategy and analytics objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a Data Scientist, you will perform in-depth analyses. The results from your projects will facilitate change throughout the organization: from developing more sophisticated underwriting models to improving claim outcomes by building predictive claim metrics. The successful candidate has good business judgement, enjoys finding and creatively solving complex business issues, and successfully drives projects through to implementation.

  • Advanced Analytics Understand and implement predictive modeling and machine learning techniques (e.g. regression, classification, clustering) and how they apply in insurance. You will be responsible for fully understanding techniques used, explaining validation metrics, identifying optimal models, etc.
  • Story Telling Demonstrate experience working with data visualization. Communication will be fundamental to success. You will be responsible for fully understanding department-specific needs, identifying and producing robust, intuitive solutions that enable decision makers.
  • Collaboration Work directly with internal partners to effectively launch analytics solutions across the organization. Success will be measured by the ability to effectively integrate analytics solutions into existing workflows and achieve buy-in from all parties, ultimately translating into improved financial performance.
  • Dataset Architecture All valuable analyses start with quality data. You will be responsible for compiling relevant data from multiple internal databases, utilizing alternative data for validation, and clearly documenting your process.
  • Education Actively pursue continuing education development opportunities. You will have access to several continuing education programs offered through CIG including analytics and data science training. CIG also supports travel to conferences that offer career development opportunities when available.
  • Leadership You will have opportunities to work on highly visible projects. You will be expected to pitch ideas and influence the status quo.
  • Manage Responsible for managing multiple high visibility projects at once. You will be expected to prioritize and execute projects in the face of ambiguity.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possesses a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in a quantitative or scientific field
  • 7+ years of experience required. Special consideration will be given to candidates with advanced machine learning experience
  • Experience creating and completing end-to-end analyses or modeling projects
  • Background in statistics
  • Demonstrated ability to implement findings from predictive modeling analyses
  • Extensive experience using SQL and a comprehensive understanding of relational databases is required
  • Advanced knowledge of Python, R, or another object-oriented statistical language
  • Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau) is a plus
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Salary Range: $91,761 - $152,938

The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as benefits and bonus programs.
