***This can be a remote role, but applicants must be based in North Dakota due to business requirements.***
This is more than a leadership role — it’s an opportunity to shape the direction of a division, influence how transportation projects are delivered, and build a high-performing team in a growing market. You’ll play a key role in delivering impactful projects while helping expand our transportation presence and reputation.
We’re seeking a licensed engineer who thrives in a client-facing leadership role — someone who can balance technical excellence with operational oversight. This role requires a leader who can guide project managers, oversee multiple projects, drive quality, and contribute to business development and division growth.
At Civil Science, you won’t just lead — you’ll have a stake in what we’re building. As a 100% employee-owned company, every success is shared. Our culture is grounded in our CORE values—Community, Ownership, Relationships, and Excellence—giving you the platform to grow your career and play a key role in shaping the future of our transportation division.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Lead and manage the Transportation Design Division, including project managers and design staff

  • Oversee multiple transportation design projects, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget performance

  • Serve as a senior client contact for transportation-related work

  • Support and drive business development efforts, including client relationships and pursuits

  • Collaborate with leadership to grow the transportation division and expand market presence

  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering a strong team culture and technical excellence

  • Ensure consistent application of QA/QC processes and high-quality project delivery

  • Balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in project oversight

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong leadership and division management experience

  • Proven ability to oversee multiple projects and lead project managers

  • Experience in transportation design and infrastructure projects

  • Ability to balance technical work with operational and strategic responsibilities

  • Strong client relationship and business development skills

  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and team-building abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to drive quality and consistency across projects

What Qualifications You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license for North Dakota required

  • 10+ years of experience in transportation design or related infrastructure

  • Experience managing teams and leading complex projects

  • Strong understanding of project management principles (budgeting, scheduling, QA/QC)

  • Experience working with NDDOT and/or public agency clients

  • Proficiency in relevant design and production tools

What Will Help You Stand Out:

  • Experience leading a division or specialty group within an engineering firm

  • Proven track record of implementing new tools, processes, or innovations

  • Active involvement in industry organizations or technical committees

  • Business development experience, including proposals and client engagement

  • Experience working across multiple offices or disciplines

Why Join Civil Science?
