Professionals in this field may create content for websites, social media, podcasts, webinars, or virtual conferences, aiming to make complex scientific topics accessible and engaging. This role requires strong communication skills, science literacy, and the ability to use digital tools effectively. Remote science communicators often collaborate with researchers, educators, and media outlets from anywhere in the world.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote science communication roles, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in remote science communication is ensuring clear and engaging messaging without face-to-face interaction, which can make it harder to gauge audience understanding. Collaborating across time zones and managing effective communication with scientists and stakeholders can also be complex. To address these, remote science communicators often rely on regular virtual meetings, collaborative tools, and clear documentation of project goals and feedback. Building a strong digital presence and adapting content for different online platforms are also key strategies for success in this role.

Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Workday Extend Developer to support our Workday ERP transformation efforts spanning Finance, HR, and Reporting. The initial primary use case for this role is the development of a multi-rate employee enablement application that allows multiple bill rates to be assigned to a single worker, supporting CAI's staffing and services business model. Beyond this initial use case, the developer will be responsible for evaluating and developing additional Extend applications as the program identifies opportunities to retire manual workarounds, custom bots, or legacy customizations. This is a contract, remote position through November 2026 with the possibility of extension.
What You’ll Do
  • Partner with HCM, Payroll, and Finance functional leads to gather and document requirements for the multi-rate employee application
  • Design and build a Workday Extend application that enables the assignment of multiple bill rates to a single worker, with appropriate effective dating, approval routing, and downstream integration to billing and payroll processes
  • Evaluate additional Extend use cases identified through the Workday Transformation program and recommend build, configure, or retire decisions
  • Architect Extend applications with efficient data models and orchestration flows that operate within Workday Extend platform constraints, including storage object record limits and orchestration execution boundaries
  • Ensure Extend applications are built with auditability, approval routing, and compliance controls in mind, maintaining the integrity of the Workday ecosystem
  • Identify and assess downstream Finance impacts resulting from HCM Extend configurations and coordinate with the Finance workstream to surface risks and align on mitigation before they reach production
  • Serve as the Extend subject matter expert for the program team - documenting solutions, explaining platform capabilities and constraints, and actively building internal team knowledge on Workday Extend development
  • Partner with Finance, HR, IT and program stakeholders to gather requirements, validate Extend solutions, and communicate technical decisions clearly

  • Minimum of 5 years of Workday configuration experience, with 3 years of hands-on Workday Extend development as a primary focus
  • Proven experience with Workday Extend development, including Extend model-level components, PMD scripting, orchestrations, custom UI components, and Extend security configuration
  • Experience configuring Workday business processes, calculated fields, custom reports, and condition rules
  • Experience architecting Extend applications with awareness of data throughput constraints and platform limits
  • Experience designing approval routing, request intake flows, and worker- or manager-facing self-service interfaces within Workday Extend
  • Familiarity with Workday security group structures and how Extend applications interact with role-based access controls and business process security policies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into governed, auditable Extend solutions
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functional teams and client stakeholders at all levels
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work independently in a fully remote contract environment

Preferred:

  • Workday Extend certification (Workday Certified Extend Developer or equivalent partner-level certification)
  • Prior experience building Workday Extend applications that integrate with Payroll, Time Tracking, or Projects
  • Familiarity with core Workday Finance transaction flows; how billing, payroll and compensation impacts AR, cash management, and reporting downstream
  • Experience in staffing, professional services, or technology services industry Workday tenants where multi-rate worker scenarios are common
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred
  • Familiarity with Workday Agent Builder or other emerging Workday AI development tools
