The Senior Regional Accountant is responsible for providing accounting support for a smaller specialized portfolio. The Senior Regional Accountant holds subject matter expertise in a particular area of accounting, and  is responsible for assisting Regional Accounting Managers with special projects as necessary. This role also is responsible for mentoring and training Regional Accountants.  In addition, is responsible for preparing and reviewing monthly operating statements, monthly cash and/or bank reconciliations, and various mid-month reconciliations for their assigned portfolio.  

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Preparing monthly accounting records for a portfolio of communities - 30%

  • Prepares and/or reviews monthly accounting records for a smaller specialized portfolio of communities
  • Maintains a schedule of concessions given to residents and contractors that qualify for 1099 reporting.
  • Reviews property transmissions, cash postings, etc.to ensure rental receipts are deposited timely.
  • Prepares capital reclass packages which include obtaining appropriate approvals and all necessary backup.
  • Prepares and reviews the monthly operating statements which include the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
  • Performs detailed analysis of utility expenses and accruals and explains month over month variances 
  • Prepares and or reviews cash and/or bank reconciliations and other mid-month reconciliations.  
  • Maintains accounting files for month-end, mid-month reconciliations and other responsibilities where applicable (manual and electronic).
  • Reviews Capital GL postings during month end reviews

Special accounting projects and subject matter expertise in a designated accounting area - 30%

  • Prepares and submits on a timely basis all HUD, Section 8 and HOC filing requirements, where applicable.
  • Prepares and or reviews Business Licenses to ensure timely filing and payment. Contact governing agencies where applicable.
  • Prepares and or reviews Sales and Use tax filings (monthly, quarterly, yearly) to insure timely filing and payment. Contact governing agencies where applicable.
  • Prepares and submits on a timely basis all replacement reserve requests, where applicable
  • Assists external/internal auditors as requested.
  • Prepares and submits cash flow mortgage payments, where applicable.
  • Performs special projects as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Research and correct escalated and higher complexity accounting issues with the community, CBG (Central Business Group), and the Corporate office -  25%

  • Notifies CBG of NSF returns and any other bank correction notice.  Assists CBG staff with cash and/or bank research items, where applicable.
  • Manages a reclass request spreadsheet and ensures the Regional Accountants are completing in a timely manner.

Assist with management of team, providing training and mentoring to Regional Accountants - 15%

  • Assists Regional Accounting Managers with management of their teams. 
  • Performs on-going training to new hires within the department, as well as refreshers to existing employees
  • Keeps up-to-date on policies, procedures/principles and EQR system application, and ensures this information is disseminated across the team timely

REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance and at least 3-years applicable accounting experience (property accounting experience preferred). Excellent written/verbal communication skills essential. Must be able to organize, prioritize workload and work on numerous projects/tasks at one time. Computer literacy required. MS Office, Excel, Essbase preferred.
