What is a remote Ruby on Rails developer?

Remote Ruby On Rails Developers are software engineers who specialize in building and maintaining web applications using the Ruby on Rails framework, while working from a location outside of a traditional office environment. They collaborate with teams online, write code, troubleshoot issues, and implement new features by leveraging Ruby on Rails' conventions and tools. These developers commonly use communication and project management tools to coordinate with colleagues and deliver high-quality software solutions for clients or employers around the world.

What does a remote Ruby on Rails developer do?

A remote Ruby on the Rails developer works from home with the Ruby on the Rails web development framework. This framework helps those working in Rails development to save time when writing code. It is an open source software, which means that you can use it for free and implement improvements so that other users get more out of it. Your duties and responsibilities in a Ruby on Rails developer position are to create object-oriented web applications, write testing elements for your application or software, and add database content to your web pages.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Ruby on Rails developers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Ruby on Rails Developers often face challenges such as effective communication with distributed teams, staying aligned on project requirements, and managing time zone differences. These can be addressed by using collaborative tools like Slack, Jira, and GitHub for daily check-ins, thorough documentation, and regular virtual meetings. Additionally, setting clear expectations with teammates and proactively seeking feedback helps maintain productivity and ensures smooth project delivery.

What is the difference between Remote Ruby On Rails Developer vs Remote Full Stack Developer?

To thrive as a Remote Ruby on Rails Developer, you need strong proficiency in Ruby, Rails framework, web development principles, and a solid understanding of databases, usually demonstrated by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Job description

Hiive is redefining how private companies and their shareholders access liquidity. In this role, your responsibilities will include:
  • Hands-on develop features across both frontend and backend, shipping React/TypeScript code from day one.
  • Build customer-facing products across the entire stack, from the data model to the UI.
  • Learn and work in Elixir, applying your experience picking up new programming languages.
  • Work proactively and self-sufficiently, learning on the job in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate closely with a small team, including directly with the founders, to build both the product and the company.
  • Adapt quickly to a fast-moving environment and shifting priorities.

Required Experience:
  • Substantial expertise building interfaces with React and working in Typescript.
  • Strong experience building backend API services using Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
  • Have a philosophy in writing automated backend tests.
  • Translating design mockups (e.g. Figma) into frontend implementation.
  • Working closely with product designers on feedback for UI/UX changes.

Preferred Experience:
  • Understanding of the ins and outs of data modeling and software architecture for developing performant and maintainable code.
  • Experience building or working with GraphQL APIs.
  • Working closely with product managers on understanding use cases, prioritizing features, and scoping work.
  • Exposure to Elixir or other functional languages.

Compensation, Benefits & Perks:
