Ruby on Rails Developer (Remote)

Lafmatch

Berkeley, CA • Remote

$104K - $143K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 21 days ago

Job description

Programming is hard work but we believe it should be fun too. And if the product itself is fun? Even better! Lafmatch is a new entrant in the casual online dating space. We’re currently in the process of repurposing technology used in our previous product, Laflife, for use in Lafmatch, and it all revolves around humor—more specifically, the science of how different people’s senses of humor interact with each other and aid in forming new relationships.

We’re looking for a sharp, user-focused Rails programmer that cares equally about making quality products that users love as well as writing quality code that is easy to read and maintain. Our Rails stack is fairly standard and up-to-date (though we might request you help us in modernizing one or two legacy areas of the codebase). Some frontend expertise is required as well (Backbone experience ideal but not required—also we use some Ruby on the frontend as well via the Opal transpiler).

In general, we are looking for a candidate with experience in:

  • Ruby on Rails
  • JavaScript/jQuery
  • Git & Github
  • PostgreSQL
  • Sidekiq/Background workers
  • Redis Caching
  • Third-party API integrations (particularly Facebook oAuth)
  • Basic Linux VPS maintenance (DigitalOcean, etc.)
  • Hybrid mobile apps (Turbolinks 5, etc.) not required, but a bonus

Note: if you’re mainly into Node.js or some other stack and dabbled with Rails in times past, this probably isn’t an ideal fit for you. We are really looking for somebody whose bread and butter has been Ruby/Rails programming. :)

You will principally be working with the lead developer for Lafmatch, as well as the founder. It’s a small team with a neat startup vibe.

We look forward to (virtually) meeting you!
