Job description
The registered respiratory therapist (RRT) functions independently or in collaboration with physicians or other health care providers. As clinicians, they are accountable for the coordination of all respiratory care services throughout the practice for the patient's life cycles, including direct patient care, patient family education and transitions of care through teamwork and communication. In addition, they'll be expected to work autonomously to quickly and accurately assess a patient's condition and communicate effectively to the care team concerning changes in the patient's condition, results of diagnostic studies, symptomatology, and response to treatment.
The RRT will provide leadership through active participation in roles such as mentorship, student educator, committee involvement, and professional quality improvement projects. The RRT will operate within department/institutional procedures and guidelines in conjunction with the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC)guidelines to function independently using critical thinking to master the following skills: cardiopulmonary assessment, mechanical ventilation, noninvasive ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, Artline insertion, airway management, RT Bedside procedures, assist providers with bedside procedures, management of specialty gases, rt driven protocols, and external education support.
Qualifications
- The Respiratory Therapist job requires graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy
- Previous hospital experience
- Additional NBRC credentials
- Basic computer literacy
Required License and Certification
- National Board for Respiratory Care Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential and active Minnesota Respiratory Therapist License (LRT) both required before first day of employment and must be maintained throughout duration of employment.
- National Board for Respiratory Care Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential is required upon hire or by the end of one year of employment and must be maintained throughout duration of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) where applicable.
- Additional life support certifications may be required by site of hire.
