• Conduct thorough initial evaluations and ongoing assessments to accurately document clients' mental, behavioral, and emotional health throughout the treatment process.
• Develop, implement, and adapt individualized treatment plans in accordance with clients’ evolving needs, which may include strategies for individuals, couples, families, and groups.
• Facilitate impactful individual and group therapy sessions, employing a range of therapeutic modalities and evidence-based practices to engage clients and foster healing.
• Monitor and evaluate clients' progress, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans based on their feedback and assessment results.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, and social workers, to create holistic intervention strategies and ensure cohesive care.
• Keep detailed records through our electronic health record systems, such as AVATAR, and ensure that all documentation is compliant with healthcare regulations.
• Actively identify and address any behavioral patterns that may hinder client recovery, implementing preventative measures to support mental wellness.
• Provide support and resources to families and primary caregivers, equipping them with strategies to assist individuals facing mental health challenges.

As part of a community health clinic, the mental health counselor role primarily serves a diverse clientele including individuals from different cultural backgrounds, ages, and economic statuses. Many clients may be dealing with complex issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or addiction. This position is crucial in delivering culturally competent care, addressing unique needs, and promoting resilience among clients in the McAllen area and beyond.

• A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Valid and current licensure in Texas as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT.
• Demonstrated knowledge of psychotherapeutic principles and an ability to apply them in client interactions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, essential for documentation and collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with a genuine empathetic approach to patient care.

• Previous experience working as a mental health counselor, with a strong familiarity in conducting both individual and group therapy.
• Experience with electronic health record systems, particularly AVATAR, to document client progress and treatment plans.
• Established understanding of the effects of medications on mental health treatment.
• Knowledge of American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) best practices.

We offer a competitive salary range of USD 80,000 – 100,000 annually, along with a sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.
