Contract Position - minimum of 4 months

Life Underwriter

Location: 100% Remote (U.S.)

Start Date: June 22, 2026


Overview

We are seeking experienced Life Underwriters to join a growing team in a fully remote capacity. This role is ideal for professionals with strong experience in fully underwritten life insurance cases, medical record analysis, and risk classification.

This position offers an opportunity to work independently while contributing to a high-volume underwriting operation.


Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate life insurance applications to determine risk classification (standard and substandard)
  • Review medical records, APS (Attending Physician Statements), and prescription histories
  • Assess high-risk medications and combinations
  • Analyze adverse health information and determine underwriting outcomes
  • Order medical exams and follow up on required documentation
  • Interpret and apply MIB (Medical Information Bureau) codes
  • Identify off-label medication usage and its impact on underwriting decisions
  • Evaluate reinstatements, add-ons, and policy modifications
  • Maintain productivity standards, including reviewing high volume of cases
  • Apply medical terminology knowledge to underwriting decisions

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2-3 years of life underwriting experience
  • Experience with fully underwritten products (not automated underwriting)
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Medical terminology
    • Prescription history analysis
    • Life insurance risk assessment
  • Signing authority of $100,000+
  • Proven ability to manage high case volumes efficiently
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with tools such as Milliman or Intelliscript
  • Ability to review and interpret detailed medical records (APS)
  • Familiarity with Swiss Re or similar underwriting guidelines

Work Schedule
  • Standard shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Alternate shift: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $38.46/hr.
