Summary of Job Duties:
**This is a remote coding position**
The Certified Procedural Coding Specialist - Inpatient reviews and interprets inpatient health records to identify diagnoses and procedures that impact the current hospital encounter. This position ensures documentation supports all assigned diagnoses and procedures and selects the appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes within established deadlines. The specialist also reviews documentation for medical necessity, assigns working diagnoses and DRGs, identifies expected length of stay and Core Measure cases as applicable, and conducts periodic reviews throughout the patient's hospitalization. Additionally, the specialist collaborates with Clinical Documentation Specialists II to identify and address documentation deficiencies to support accurate and complete coding.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED with one of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA, with two (2) years of coding experience required.
- Must be self-directed with critical thinking and collaborative abilities.
Preferred Qualification:
- Degree in Health Information Management or related field.
- Two years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility, in a multi-service/specialty setting.
- Current CCS certification preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Complete final review of medical record and select appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes within 4 days of patient discharge as assigned.
- Review documentation to match appropriate codes with documentation for medical necessity.
- Review records upon admission and periodically throughout hospitalization to assign working diagnosis and DRG, expected length of stay, and identification of Core Measures cases as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Documentation Specialists II to identify and address documentation deficiencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
