How much do remote rf engineer jobs pay per year?
What is a Remote RF Engineer job?
A Remote RF Engineer is a professional who designs, analyzes, and optimizes radio frequency (RF) systems while working remotely. They focus on tasks such as network planning, signal analysis, interference mitigation, and equipment testing for industries like telecommunications, aerospace, and defense. Using specialized software and tools, they ensure effective wireless communication without being physically present at a work site. This role requires knowledge of RF principles, antenna design, and wireless standards. Strong problem-solving skills and experience with RF simulation tools are essential for success in this position.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Rf Engineer position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a Remote RF Engineer, you need a strong background in radio frequency theory, wireless communication, circuit design, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with RF simulation tools (such as CST, HFSS, or ADS), spectrum analyzers, and certifications like a Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant vendor certifications are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, self-management, and clear written and verbal communication skills distinguish top candidates. These skills are crucial as RF Engineers must independently analyze, design, and troubleshoot complex wireless systems while effectively collaborating with distributed teams.
What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Remote RF Engineer?
As a Remote RF Engineer, your daily responsibilities often include designing, simulating, and testing RF circuits and systems, diagnosing performance issues, and optimizing wireless networks from a remote location. You may collaborate virtually with cross-functional teams, prepare technical reports, and participate in project meetings. Many remote RF Engineers also support field teams by analyzing remote test data and providing guidance on troubleshooting. The role requires strong self-discipline and proactive communication to ensure timely project delivery and effective teamwork.

We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world's largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.
Power Generation delivers integrated energy solutions that support reliable, efficient, and lower-emission operations across upstream, midstream, LNG, and industrial applications. Our technologies include natural gas treatment, power systems integration, and advanced process solutions that enable customers to optimize energy utilization and reduce environmental impact.
We are seeking an Electrical Power Systems Advisor to define and lead the electrical architecture for hyperscale and AI-focused data centers, including multi-building campuses and 100MW-1GW+ power programs.
This role represents the highest technical authority for power systems within Power Generation-setting strategy, standards, and architectural direction from concept through commissioning and live operations.
The position is designed for a proven engineering leader with deep expertise in MV/HV power systems, protection & controls, and mission-critical infrastructure, capable of influencing executives, utilities, EPCs, OEMs, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and standardization of MV/HV power architectures for hyperscale and AI-driven data centers, including substations, switchgear, transformers, and distribution systems.
Define scalable, repeatable electrical designs that support multi-site deployments and high-density power requirements.
Establish and maintain protection and controls strategies, including relay coordination, system selectivity, and operational reliability.
Drive implementation of digital power systems (e.g., IEC 61850 architectures), ensuring consistency, quality, and scalability across projects.
Develop and validate Sequences of Operation (SoO) for normal operations, failover scenarios, maintenance, and system recovery.
Serve as the technical lead for utility interconnection, including coordination on protection schemes, metering, and power quality requirements.
Support advanced power strategies such as energy storage (BESS), backup generation, and grid resilience solutions.
Partner with construction and commissioning teams to support energization, system testing, and operational readiness.
Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex electrical and control system issues in live environments.
Support upgrades and retrofits in operational facilities where uptime and continuity are critical.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers across design, controls, and operations teams.
Collaborate with OEMs, EPCs, utilities, and vendors to ensure alignment on technical standards and project execution.
Establish and maintain engineering standards, best practices, and quality frameworks for electrical and control systems.
Required
15+ years of experience in electrical power systems within data centers, critical infrastructure, utilities, or similar high-reliability environments.
Experience with power generation systems (e.g., gas turbines, reciprocating engines, or hybrid solutions).
Strong knowledge of MV/HV electrical systems, including distribution, switchgear, and substations.
Experience with protection and controls, including relay coordination and system integration.
Ability to develop and support Sequences of Operation (SoO) and commissioning or testing activities.
Familiarity with industry standards such as ANSI/UL and IEC.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Willingness to travel up to 50%, depending on project needs.
Preferred
Experience with IEC 61850 digital substations (GOOSE/MMS).
Background supporting hyperscale data center projects (design, construction, commissioning, or operations).
Familiarity with power monitoring systems (PMS) and reliability or event response programs.
Experience with hybrid power systems, including on-site generation and energy storage (BESS).
Experience working on global or multi-region projects.
Advanced degree (MS, MBA, or similar) is a plus.
Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for higher-level positions based on experience, capability, and business needs. Career progression includes R&D Electrical Engineer Advisor, R&D Electrical Engineer Senior Advisor and R&D Electrical Engineer Chief Advisor.
