Why This Role Matters

As a Mechanical Engineer in our Higher Education Market with 7+ years of experience you'll play a key role in supporting the firm and shaping projects that make a difference-from concept through completion. You'll collaborate with talented teammates, contribute your expertise, and help us deliver thoughtful, high-quality solutions for those we serve.

What You'll Do 

• Help lead a cohesive team of high-performing professionals
• Tasked with the mechanical design of utility systems, encompassing steam, chilled water, ventilation, fire protection, plumbing, and building automation systems
• Collaboration is key as you'll work within a team alongside mechanical team members and across various disciplines, including electrical, structural, architectural, and civil engineering
• Diverse range of projects spanning government facilities, healthcare, industrial, commercial, and educational buildings
• Produce detailed construction drawings using  Autodesk Revit 3D modeling software, and become proficient with software for hydraulic modeling and pipe stress analysis
• Visit project sites, where your duties will include measurements, data collection, and observation of construction activities

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree In Mechanical or Architectural Engineering from an accredited engineering school with a specific emphasis on energy and utilities. 
• Experience:  7+ years of experience.
• License/Certification: Engineering Intern (EI) having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and currently pursuing a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
• Climb ladders and work on elevated platforms and open grating.
• Wear personal safety equipment required for specific clients and sites.
• Pass drug and background screenings required for work at most client sites

What will make you stand out 

• Your expertise includes 3D modeling software; AutoDesk Revit is preferred.  
• While experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is desired, proficiency in these tools is commendable. 
• Your ability to collaborate effectively within a team, coupled with strong interpersonal skills
• Excel in managing your time and workload, demonstrating a knack for planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks with meticulous attention to engineering detail.

This position is primarily performed in an office or hybrid environment and may require travel to project sites, other Shive-Hattery office locations or to meet with clients. A full clean driver's license is required. The role involves sitting, standing, and working at a computer for extended periods. May also require lifting light to medium weight objects of up to 50 lbs., the wearing of PPE and navigating active construction sites.
