REMOTE ELIGIBLE
Position Summary
The Director, Distribution Center Maintenance & Asset Reliability provides enterprise leadership for maintenance, facilities, asset reliability, and capital planning and construction programs across the distribution network. This role is responsible for developing and implementing maintenance strategies, standards, policies, and performance expectations that support safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations.
This Director leads a team of Regional Maintenance Managers, Asset Reliability Analysts and serves as the function leader for Distribution Center Maintenance Managers through a matrix reporting structure and partners closely with Distribution Center General Managers, Engineering, Finance, Safety, and Supply Chain leadership. The role is responsible for advancing maintenance excellence, optimizing asset performance, guiding capital investment strategies, and ensuring the organization's facilities and equipment can support current and future business needs.
The Director is accountable for maintenance workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, asset lifecycle management, and reliability initiatives across the network. The role establishes maintenance standards, staffing models and role-level expectations while leading the planning, construction, expansion and execution of distribution center capital projects.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance Strategy & Asset Reliability
Develop and execute the enterprise maintenance and asset reliability strategy for the distribution network, ensuring alignment with operational, financial, and business objectives. Establish and govern preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for building systems, material handling equipment, rolling stock, racking, HVAC, and other facility infrastructure. Monitor reliability and maintenance performance through established KPIs, analytics, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure effective utilization and governance of CMMS, maintenance systems, asset management processes, and reporting tools.
Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness
Lead and develop Regional Maintenance Managers and support personnel while providing functional leadership to Distribution Center Maintenance Managers through a matrix reporting structure. Establish maintenance organizational standards, staffing models, role leveling criteria, competency requirements, and workforce development strategies across the distribution network. Partner with Distribution Center leadership to ensure maintenance organizations are appropriately staffed, capable, and positioned to support current and future business needs.
Capital Planning & Asset Lifecycle Management
Lead maintenance-related capital planning and long-range asset replacement strategies, including project prioritization, business case development, ROI analysis, and capital governance. Direct the planning, design, construction, startup, expansion, and commissioning of new distribution centers and major capital improvement projects. Oversee all phases of capital project execution, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, contractor management, commissioning, project closeout, and financial reporting. Evaluate facility and equipment performance and recommend upgrades, modernization initiatives, automation investments, and infrastructure improvements to enhance operational performance and reliability.
Facilities, Safety & Compliance
Ensure maintenance programs support compliance with OSHA, environmental, fire protection, hazardous materials, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Partner with Safety and Operations leadership to promote a culture of safety, risk reduction, and regulatory compliance.
Vendor Management & Strategic Partnerships
Develop and maintain relationships with contractors, equipment manufacturers, service providers, and consultants to support maintenance operations and capital projects. Establish service expectations, evaluate vendor performance, and negotiate maintenance service agreements and contracts in consultation with Procurement partners. Serve as the primary maintenance advisor to Distribution Center leadership, Supply Chain leadership, and Engineering leadership regarding maintenance strategy, asset reliability, facilities management, and capital planning.
Analytics & Performance Management
Provide maintenance and capital expenditure reporting, performance analysis, forecasting and recommendations to senior leadership. Partner with Asset Reliability Analysts to ensure effective financial stewardship, project tracking, and performance measurement of maintenance and capital investments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive maintenance, facilities, asset reliability, or engineering leadership experience in a distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or highly automated operational environment.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing multi-site maintenance operations or maintenance support functions.
  • Experience leading capital planning, asset replacement programs, and facility improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance best practices, asset management principles, safety regulations, and facility systems.
  • Experience utilizing CMMS, maintenance management systems, and performance analytics tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and lead through a matrix organizational structure.
  • Strong business acumen, project management, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Facilities Engineering.
  • Experience supporting highly automated distribution or fulfillment operations.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), Certified Plant Maintenance Manager (CPMM), Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, or similar credentials.
  • Experience with reliability-centered maintenance, predictive maintenance technologies, and asset lifecycle management programs.
  • Experience leading major distribution center construction, expansion, or automation projects.
  • Experience supporting highly automated distribution or fulfillment operations.

Start Rate = $187,000-$213,500 based on experience plus 25% annual bonus and equity.
