What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote React Developer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote React Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, React.js, front-end frameworks, and a solid understanding of web development principles, typically supported by a relevant degree or practical experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, RESTful APIs, npm, and popular state management libraries (such as Redux) is crucial, and certifications in front-end technologies can be advantageous. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help remote developers collaborate effectively and meet deadlines. These skills and qualities ensure you can deliver high-quality, scalable applications while thriving in a virtual team environment.

What Does a Remote React Developer Do?

As a remote React developer, your job is to code web-based software, applications, and other programming elements for your client. In this work from home role, you may plan the development of software, oversee data modeling, solve technical, performance, or scalability challenges as they present themselves, and help define and ensure compliance to software engineering standards. You may frequently develop complex web applications, maintain and enhance automated software deployment pipelines, and work in a fast-paced agile environment to collaborate with other developers as needed. Most remote React developers work as part of a larger team, but you may work independently if you are hired by a smaller company.

What is a Remote React Developer?

A Remote React Developer is a software engineer who specializes in building user interfaces and web applications using the React.js library, while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. Their primary responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining front-end components to create seamless and interactive user experiences. Senior Serverless Architect (AWS)

Dev Technology

Job description

Senior Serverless Architect (AWS)

Event-Driven Architecture • AWS Serverless • Autonomous Services

Location: Remote-First (travel to client sites in D.C. Metro area)

Clearance: U.S. Citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust

A Role with Purpose and Impact

Dev Technology is expanding the size of our programs, the complexity of our technical challenges, and the impact of the missions we support. This role exists to help us scale thoughtfully while continuing to deliver high-quality, mission-critical systems for the federal government, including programs supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE.

You will join a collaborative engineering organization solving complex data and integration problems under real-world constraints. The work requires sound judgment, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to understanding problems deeply before acting.

This role is designed for a senior technical leader who values partnership and takes ownership of solving mission-critical challenges — delivering durable, high-quality solutions with real-world impact.

Leadership and Technical Delivery

This role blends technical leadership with hands-on delivery. You will:

  • Design and evolve cloud-native, serverless architectures supporting large, complex data sets and high-volume event-driven data flows
  • Work directly with customers to understand mission needs, clarify constraints, and explore tradeoffs that lead to durable solutions
  • Serve as a trusted technical partner to program leadership — providing perspective during key decisions, stepping in when needed, and helping teams navigate complexity
  • Build trusted partnerships with federal clients while mentoring and guiding technical teams

You will remain close to the work: reviewing designs and code, prototyping approaches, troubleshooting production issues, and improving system performance and reliability.

Who Thrives Here

People who thrive in this role bring a thoughtful, grounded approach to technical leadership. They:

  • Listen carefully, ask good questions, and take the time to understand problems before offering solutions
  • Are motivated self-learners who stay current through research, experimentation, and reflection
  • Bring maturity and presence to technical conversations — especially when the stakes are high
  • Value staying hands-on with design, code, and technical problem-solving
  • Find satisfaction in mentoring and growing technical talent, strengthening teams through collaboration rather than individual heroics
  • Enjoy partnering closely with customers and teammates, earning trust through integrity, respect, and follow-through
  • Are resilient in the face of ambiguity and connected to the mission and the real people who rely on the systems we build

The Opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to grow alongside a company that is expanding with purpose — taking on larger programs, more complex data challenges, and broader mission impact. You will have room to influence technical direction, shape how we deliver, and contribute meaningfully without being removed from the technology itself.

If you are motivated by complex data problems, collaborative problem-solving, and quietly effective technical leadership, this role offers both challenge and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement event-driven, serverless architectures on AWS using Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, SQS, and Kinesis
  • Architect and maintain systems where services communicate exclusively through domain events — no synchronous inter-service coupling
  • Build and support data pipelines handling high-volume event streams (Firehose, S3, Athena, Glue)
  • Set architectural direction and enforce best practices across a platform of 20+ autonomous microservices
  • Stay hands-on with coding, code reviews, troubleshooting, and performance tuning in Node.js
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to translate mission needs into technical solutions
  • Mentor engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
  • Contribute to CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud security practices
  • Guide micro-frontend architecture decisions (Single-SPA, React, independently deployed UI modules)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Production AWS serverless experience — you have built and operated systems using Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, SQS, and S3 (not just prototypes or certifications)
  • Event-driven architecture — you have designed systems where services communicate through events/messages rather than direct API calls. You understand eventual consistency and its tradeoffs.
  • Node.js — strong production experience. This is a JavaScript/Node.js platform.
  • DynamoDB — hands-on experience with single-table design, streams, and global tables (not just relational databases)
  • Infrastructure as code — experience with Serverless Framework, AWS CDK, SAM, or CloudFormation
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain DHS clearance
  • Active AWS Certification(s)
  • Willing and able to meet with client(s) in the D.C. Metro area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DynamoDB Streams for change data capture and event publishing
  • Experience with data lake architectures (S3 + Athena + Glue, medallion/bronze-silver-gold patterns)
  • Experience with micro-frontend architectures (Single-SPA, Module Federation, or similar)
  • Familiarity with event sourcing and CQRS patterns at the system level
  • Experience with multi-region active-active deployments on AWS
  • Experience with Kinesis Firehose for streaming data ingestion
  • AWS certifications (DevOps Pro, Solutions Architect Pro, or Security Specialty)
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud or FedRAMP-authorized systems
  • Experience mentoring teams of 3+ engineers on cloud-native platforms
  • Federal or regulated environment experience collaborating with government clients

Our estimated salary range for this position is $145,000 - $225,000. This presented salary range is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. The offered salary is based on education, experience, geographic location, and possibly contractual requirements appropriate to the role. *Salary could fall outside of this range.
