What is remote radiology?

A remote radiology job involves interpreting medical images, such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, from a remote location rather than an on-site medical facility. Radiologists review digital images using secure software and provide diagnostic reports to physicians and healthcare providers. This allows for greater flexibility, faster turnaround times, and access to specialized expertise regardless of geographic location. Remote radiology is commonly used in teleradiology services, where radiologists work for hospitals, imaging centers, or telemedicine companies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote radiology?

Excelling in Remote Radiology requires a medical degree with board certification in radiology, along with a deep expertise in interpreting diagnostic imaging such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs. Familiarity with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), teleradiology software, and HIPAA-compliant digital communication tools is critical. Attention to detail, strong written communication, and the ability to work independently are valuable soft skills in this remote setting. These capabilities ensure accurate interpretations, timely reporting, and seamless collaboration with referring providers despite geographical distance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote radiology roles?

Remote radiologists often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective communication with on-site medical teams and addressing occasional technical issues related to image transmission and software. Adapting to different hospital protocols, time zones, and managing workflow across multiple facilities can also be complex. However, most organizations provide robust support networks, regular virtual meetings, and IT assistance to help radiologists stay integrated and up to date. Success in this environment often depends on strong organizational skills, a proactive approach to communication, and comfort with digital tools.

Job description

Our client, a leading academic-affiliated Level 1 Trauma Center specializing in high-volume diagnostic imaging, is hiring a Radiologist (Remote, Evenings). This is an exceptional opportunity for experienced radiologists seeking a flexible, high-impact role that combines sophisticated technology with a collaborative educational environment.

As a key member of the Department of Radiology, you will provide evening teleradiology coverage for a busy 600-bed hospital. Your responsibilities include interpreting a diverse caseload encompassing MRI, CT, general X-rays, trauma X-rays, and ultrasound studies. You will contribute to critical emergency and trauma cases in a fast-paced, high-volume setting, ensuring timely and accurate diagnoses in support of patient care. The position offers approximately 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with shared call responsibilities, making it ideal for work-life balance.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and report imaging studies including MRI, CT, X-ray, trauma X-ray, and ultrasound.
  • Participate in shift coverage during evening hours, approximately 30 hours weekly.
  • Collaborate with departmental peers and support clinical teams in fast-paced, high-volume trauma environments.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and timely reporting of findings.
  • Engage in quality assurance activities and uphold imaging standards.

Requirements:

  • MD or DO degree with current Board Certification or eligibility in Radiology.
  • Eligible for or holds a New York State medical license.
  • Proven proficiency in interpreting MRI, CT, and general X-ray images
  • Prior experience in high-volume and trauma imaging environments preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and ability to perform accurately under pressure.

Some of the Benefits:

  • Flexible, remote teleradiology role with predictable evening hours.
  • Competitive base salary
  • Access to state-of-the-art imaging technology, including 3T and 1.5T MRI, Spectral CT, Vereos Digital PET-CT, and advanced ultrasound units.
  • Opportunities for education, research, and professional growth.
  • Supportive academic environment with collaborative colleagues and cutting-edge resources.
  • Work-life balance with fixed evening schedule and minimal on-site requirements.

Candidates with a background in high-volume trauma imaging, ultrasound, and those interested in academic collaboration will find this position particularly rewarding. If you are a dedicated radiologist seeking an impactful remote role with excellent compensation, we encourage you to apply and become part of this innovative team.
