What is a Remote Radiology job?

A remote radiology job involves interpreting medical images, such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, from a remote location rather than an on-site medical facility. Radiologists review digital images using secure software and provide diagnostic reports to physicians and healthcare providers. This allows for greater flexibility, faster turnaround times, and access to specialized expertise regardless of geographic location. Remote radiology is commonly used in teleradiology services, where radiologists work for hospitals, imaging centers, or telemedicine companies.

Can you do radiology remotely?

Remote radiology is a common practice where radiologists interpret medical images such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs from a remote location using specialized viewing software. This setup often requires a secure internet connection, relevant certifications, and familiarity with digital imaging tools. Many radiologists work remotely, especially in teleradiology companies or healthcare systems that support remote diagnostics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Radiology position, and why are they important?

Excelling in Remote Radiology requires a medical degree with board certification in radiology, along with a deep expertise in interpreting diagnostic imaging such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs. Familiarity with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), teleradiology software, and HIPAA-compliant digital communication tools is critical. Attention to detail, strong written communication, and the ability to work independently are valuable soft skills in this remote setting. These capabilities ensure accurate interpretations, timely reporting, and seamless collaboration with referring providers despite geographical distance.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote radiology roles?

Remote radiologists often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective communication with on-site medical teams and addressing occasional technical issues related to image transmission and software. Adapting to different hospital protocols, time zones, and managing workflow across multiple facilities can also be complex. However, most organizations provide robust support networks, regular virtual meetings, and IT assistance to help radiologists stay integrated and up to date. Success in this environment often depends on strong organizational skills, a proactive approach to communication, and comfort with digital tools.

How much do work from home radiologists make?

Remote radiologists typically earn between $250,000 and $400,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and workload. Many work flexible hours and use specialized imaging software, with compensation often including benefits and bonuses.

Can radiology be done remotely?

Remote radiology, often called teleradiology, allows radiologists to interpret medical images such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs from a location outside of a hospital or clinic. This practice requires specialized imaging software, high-speed internet, and relevant certifications, enabling radiologists to work from home or remote locations while providing diagnostic services. Many radiology jobs now offer remote options, especially for overnight or on-call shifts.

What remote job is highest in demand?

Remote radiology is among the highest in demand within telehealth, as radiologists can interpret medical images remotely using specialized software and secure networks. The demand is driven by the need for diagnostic services, with many positions requiring board certification and proficiency in imaging tools. This field offers flexible schedules and the opportunity to work from home while providing essential healthcare services.

Job description

Palm Health Resources is hiring experienced Diagnostic Radiologists with Body Imaging expertise (chest, abdomen, pelvis) to support a community-based radiology coverage need aligned with operations in Baltimore, Maryland. This opportunity is structured as a fully remote (teleradiology) role with defined weekend and holiday shifts.

The position focuses on interpretation of body imaging studies across CT, MRI, and radiography, with a strong emphasis on high-volume outpatient and inpatient examinations. Radiologists will participate in a shared coverage model across multiple sites, ensuring timely and accurate reads for emergency, inpatient, and scheduled imaging workflows. Clinical responsibilities are strictly diagnostic, with no procedural duties required.

Coverage is needed specifically for weekends and holidays, with 8-hour shifts available during the following time blocks: 7:00 AM 3:00 PM, 8:00 AM 4:00 PM, or 2:00 PM 10:00 PM. Candidates are expected to commit to a minimum 6-month engagement, providing consistent availability during assigned shifts.

This role is fully integrated into an established imaging workflow and requires proficiency with Epic, Carestream, and PowerScribe for image review, reporting, and clinical documentation.

Applicants must hold or be eligible for active medical licensure in both Maryland and the District of Columbia, as coverage spans multiple jurisdictions (IMLC accepted). Board certification in Diagnostic Radiology is required, with fellowship training in Body Imaging strongly preferred. Ideal candidates will be efficient in high-volume reading environments, capable of working independently in a remote setting, and able to maintain strong communication within a distributed clinical team.

This is a flexible, clinically focused opportunity designed to support existing coverage needs while offering remote work within a structured, multi-site radiology practice.
