What is a remote radiographer?

A Remote Radiographer is a licensed professional who captures and interprets medical images, such as X-rays and CT scans, from a remote location. Using teleradiology technology, they transmit images to radiologists or physicians for diagnosis and treatment planning. Remote Radiographers ensure image quality, follow safety protocols, and may assist in patient positioning instructions. This role allows healthcare facilities to provide imaging services efficiently without requiring an on-site radiographer. It is especially beneficial for rural or understaffed healthcare settings.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a remote radiographer?

To thrive as a Remote Radiographer, you need a solid background in radiologic technology, medical imaging procedures, and an accredited radiography certification such as ARRT. Proficiency in using PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), digital imaging tools, and secure telehealth platforms is essential. Strong attention to detail, independent problem-solving, and effective digital communication are valuable soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure accurate imaging, reliable remote collaboration, and high standards of patient care in a virtual environment.

What are the unique challenges of working as a remote radiographer?

Working remotely as a Radiographer often means less direct interaction with patients and on-site staff, which can present challenges in communication and case collaboration. To overcome this, professionals should develop strong virtual communication skills and maintain proactive contact with healthcare providers and team members. Reliable internet access and familiarity with secure imaging software are critical to ensure workflow efficiency. Staying up to date with remote protocols and ongoing professional development can also help you adapt to new technologies and maintain high-quality standards in diagnostic imaging.

Can you do radiology remotely?

Remote radiographers, also known as teleradiologists, interpret medical images such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs from a remote location using specialized imaging software and secure networks. This role typically requires relevant certifications, strong computer skills, and adherence to patient privacy regulations. Many radiology practices now offer remote reading options to increase flexibility and coverage.

What kind of remote radiographer makes the most money?

Experienced remote radiographers with specialized skills in advanced imaging modalities such as MRI or CT, along with certifications like ARRT, tend to earn higher salaries. Those working in high-demand healthcare settings or with extensive experience and additional qualifications generally make the most money in this field.

Job description

Remote · Part-Time (0.5 FTE) · Hudson Region, NJ · NYC Metro

POSITION SUMMARY
  • Fully Remote: all reads performed remotely. No on-site requirement.
  • Schedule: very flexible to accommodate your needs: 8 or 10-hour shifts
  • No overnights: overnight coverage handled by teleradiology group
  • Volume: mammography, breast MRI, and ultrasound ONLY
  • Compensation: $250k+ achievable uncapped compensation

We are seeking a fellowship-trained Breast Imaging Radiologist to join as a founding member of a burgeoning Radiology Practice serving Hudson, New Jersey hospitals and multi-specialty diagnostic clinics across the NYC metro area.

The Perks
  • Founding Radiologist Role: This is a founding radiologist opportunity; direct line to leadership, meaningful input into how the department is built, the credibility of being part of the group that created it, and the professional satisfaction of building something with lasting impact. You define what this platform becomes.
  • Lucrative Earning Potential: $250k+ achievable compensation within a 0.5 FTE engagement, uncapped.
  • Fully Remote: All reads performed remotely. No on-site requirement.
  • Subspecialty-Focused: Dedicated breast imaging workload: mammography, breast MRI, and ultrasound. No general modality coverage expected.
  • Flexible Structure: Part-time engagement designed to complement an existing position or fit around your preferred schedule.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive malpractice coverage; additional benefits commensurate with part-time engagement.
The Opportunity
  • Dedicated Breast Imaging Program: The region's dense, underserved population generates significant latent demand for breast imaging services; demand that the hospital is positioned to capture as we build out our radiology team. The volume exists; we are assembling the subspecialty team to read it, and breast imaging is a priority hire in that build.

What You'll Bring
  • Fellowship training in Breast Imaging; Board Certified or Board Eligible in Diagnostic Radiology
  • Experience in full-field digital mammography, breast MRI, and breast ultrasound
  • Comfortable with image-guided breast procedures (biopsy, localization) preferred
  • Eligible for New Jersey medical licensure
  • Interest in a focused, remote-first breast imaging role with a growing system
