IQM Quantum Computers

College Park, MD • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Re-posted 15 days ago

Job description

At IQM, we build world-leading quantum computers for the well-being of humankind. We design systems to tackle computational challenges beyond the practical limits of classical machines. Our work sits at the edge of science and engineering. It's complex, demanding, and deeply collaborative. We turn deep research into reliable, full-stack systems that drive discoveries in fields like medicine, energy, and technology, reshaping how the world computes.
Join the team that gives quantum a heartbeat.
The work
Quantum computing is no longer a research question. It is an infrastructure question. Governments and institutions across the world are making sovereign quantum bets right now, and IQM is building and operating more quantum systems than any other company on the planet. This role puts you at the center of that story - with real deployments, a global footprint, and a communications platform with significant room to grow.
As Senior Communications Manager, you lead the global public relations strategy that positions IQM as a deep tech leader in quantum computing infrastructure. You translate complex advances in superconducting processors, on-premises quantum systems, and research partnerships into narratives that resonate with media, analysts, scientific communities, and policy audiences. This is a strategic communications role with real influence on how IQM is perceived across global markets.
What you'll actually do
  • Develop and execute a global PR strategy that reinforces IQM's leadership in full stack quantum computing infrastructure.
  • Own and evolve IQM's external narrative, translating complex technical milestones into clear and credible stories.
  • Build and manage relationships with leading US and international journalists across deep tech, semiconductor, HPC, and enterprise media.
  • Drive proactive media coverage around system deployments, research breakthroughs, partnerships, and product launches.
  • Prepare executives and technical leaders for media interviews, briefings, and conference appearances.
  • Lead thought leadership initiatives including contributed articles, expert commentary, and the amplification of IQM's annual flagship report.
  • Build relationships with technology analysts and support IQM's inclusion in market research and technology landscape reports.
  • Coordinate closely with Marketing, Engineering, Research, and Legal to ensure messaging accuracy and consistency.
  • Monitor global media coverage and analyst sentiment while supporting reputation and crisis communications readiness.
What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.
  • Extensive experience in PR, corporate communications, or strategic communications in deep tech, big tech, advanced computing, quantum computing, or scientific industries.
  • Demonstrated success positioning complex B2B technologies in international technology, science, or enterprise media.
  • Established relationships with journalists covering technology, science, or enterprise markets.
  • Experience managing PR agencies and delivering measurable communications outcomes.
  • Prior experience leading or managing communications professionals.
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to write clearly about technically complex subjects.
  • Ability to operate confidently in high visibility communications situations and cross functional environments.
Why IQM?
  • Full-stack quantum computing: From quantum hardware to software layers and beyond, we build across the full-stack.
  • High-performance playground: We aim high, and we know sustainable performance only works when life outside work does too-hybrid setups, flexible hours.
  • Never the smartest: Expect to learn constantly. You won't always be the smartest person in the room, and that's the point.
  • Approachable leadership: Flat hierarchy, direct access. Feel free to approach any leaders. They're friendlier than they look!
  • The sweet spot: Big enough to matter. Small enough to move fast. Growing between a startup and a corporation. We're in the phase where top performers get noticed.
  • Bigger than IQM: Our people build know-how for the entire quantum ecosystem. We publish papers, run hackathons, and help shape a market that's still being defined.
The future of computing won't build itself. You might be one of the few who do.
  • Meet our people and learn more about IQM on our stories page.
  • Explore our scientific publications.

We'll start interviews and move forward with hiring as soon as we meet strong candidates. Please submit your application soon.
