Job description

Wallace Montgomery is searching for a Reality Capture Manager to join our Surveys team in our Hunt Valley, Maryland office. The Reality Capture Manager will lead the strategy, execution, integration and advancement of all reality capture technology within the Survey Department, including LiDAR (mobile, terrestrial, aerial), photogrammetry, remote sensing workflows, GNSS, bathymetric, and advanced digital modeling methods. This manager serves as the departments, SME in survey technology. 

This role oversees technical standards, quality assurance, data acquisition, and staff training to ensure high-accuracy, safe, and efficient field and office deliverables.

Essential Functions: 

  • Leadership & Management
    • Lead the development and implementation of reality capture strategies, including terrestrial, drone and, mobile mapping LiDAR.
    • Mentor technicians, survey crews, and analysts in collection, processing, and QA/QC of captured data.
    • Establish and continuously improve technical standards, workflows, documentation, and departmentwide training programs.
    • Coordinate with project managers, surveyors, engineers, and GIS specialists to align deliverables with project scopes and accuracy requirements.
  • Technical Execution & Oversight
    • Plan, coordinate, and direct reality capture operations.
    • Perform advanced LiDAR registration, point cloud management, scantomodel workflows, and extraction of features to appropriate accuracy standards.
    • Ensure proper establishment of horizontal and vertical control, including integration of GNSS, and conventional survey methods.
    • Lead the processing and QA/QC of point clouds, imagery, and hybrid datasets to meet project requirements.
    • Serve as the firm’s central technical consultant on reality capture issues.
  • Project Delivery & Support
    • Develop projectspecific flight, scanning, or control plans to ensure safe, accurate, and costeffective data collection.
    • Participate in proposal development, scope writing, and cost estimating for survey and mapping projects involving advanced capture technologies.
    • Support field teams in hazardous or complex conditions by selecting the appropriate remote capture method to maintain safety and data reliability (e.g., drone mapping in unstable locations).  
  • Innovation & Technology Management
    • Evaluate and recommend procurement of new technologies, sensors, software, and equipment.
    • Maintain a forwardlooking perspective on industry innovations, standards, and best practices.
    • Lead pilot programs, testing, and adoption processes for new tools and techniques.

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive survey experience, including demonstrable leadership in LiDAR or other reality capture technologies.
  • Extensive experience with:
    • Terrestrial and mobile LiDAR scanning
    • Drone photogrammetry and remote sensing
    • GNSS, RTK/VRS, and control networks
    • Topographic, boundary, construction stakeout, ROW, and utility surveys
    • Point cloud extraction and processing workflows
