What Are Remote Jobs That Use Python?

Remote jobs that use Python focus on coding software and applications to meet the needs or business objectives of your employer. This may involve working with a database, customizing an existing application, or otherwise modifying software based on its expected environment. You can also find a few remote roles that allow you to teach Python instead of using it. Many remote jobs that use Python also involve coding in other common languages as necessary—Python may be the bulk of the work, but the ability to switch to other modes of programming as needed is essential for success in this field. As a remote employee or independent contractor, you may use virtual office software to coordinate with others, upload software into a central database for testing, or work odd hours to meet the needs of your client.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Python Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Python Developer, you need strong programming skills in Python, experience with software development life cycles, and a relevant degree or professional experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, Docker, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), and frameworks such as Django or Flask is typically required, along with knowledge of remote collaboration tools like Slack and Jira. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for remote team integration and project delivery. These skills ensure efficient, high-quality code development, seamless teamwork, and the ability to meet project goals independently in a remote environment.

How do Remote Python Developers typically collaborate and communicate with their teams?

Remote Python Developers often work closely with distributed teams using collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, and GitHub. Clear communication and regular check-ins are essential for syncing on project requirements, code reviews, and troubleshooting. Developers are encouraged to document their code thoroughly and proactively update their progress to ensure smooth workflow across different time zones. This environment fosters independence and strong written communication skills, while also providing opportunities to participate in virtual standups, sprint planning, and peer programming sessions.

What are Remote Python jobs?

Remote Python jobs are positions where you work primarily with the Python programming language but do so from a location outside of a traditional office, such as your home or another remote location. These jobs can include roles like software developer, data analyst, backend engineer, or machine learning engineer, all of which use Python for building applications, analyzing data, or automating tasks. Remote Python jobs are popular due to Python's versatility and the growing demand for flexible work arrangements in the tech industry.

Job Description

Senior Full Stack Engineer - REMOTE

Why you want to work at Flexion:

We're looking for a  Senior Full Stack Engineer with an unwavering passion for working in autonomous, self-directed teams to build complex systems using lean, agile mindsets-this means delivering incremental business value with each sprint and enabling options at all scales.  For this project, you and your team will be collaborating with the federal partners to streamline reporting processes, aiming to enhance operational efficiency.

At Flexion (an agile software company that's been delivering excellence for over 25 years), our company culture is built on autonomy, trust, and transparency. We empower teams to remain self-sufficient and self-directed by hiring people who can solve complex problems through collaboration-this means lending a hand and flexing your multi-skilled muscles as needed. Every member of a cross-functional team is a leader who takes responsibility for the entire team's success, mirroring the company's overall low-bureaucracy structure.

We believe that growth comes from working together-and that includes supporting each other through thoughtful, constructive feedback. Flexion team members are expected to help each other grow, challenge ideas respectfully, and integrate feedback as a normal part of the workday.

What the job looks like:

You'll be part of a multi-disciplinary, agile team tasked with building and improving a government data catalog used to inform decisions by the public and policymakers, drive innovation and economic activity, achieve agency missions, and strengthen the foundation of an open and transparent government.

  • Advance the state-of-the-practice for software engineering and Infrastructure as Code across Flexion and our clients

  • Learn and analyze new technologies and industry best practices to identify suitability for adoption by the team and our clients

  • Design, develop, document, and automate novel tools and infrastructure in enterprise-scale healthcare data systems that support multiple teams

  • Swarming and pairing with your team to design, code, test, debug, deploy, and document software in an agile environment

  • Tackle a wide variety of technical problems

  • Exercise your full tool-belt of skills and experience

Why we want to hire you:

You can deliver in small pieces as you go, while still thinking about how they fit into the whole. You welcome change as a positive (instead of viewing it as "rework") and never consider anything you deliver "final." Although you understand that what you deliver may not be complete, you never knowingly deliver something that is wrong or of poor quality. You actively contribute to a learning team culture, offering and receiving feedback with curiosity and respect.

You have:

  • 5+ years of application development experience

  • A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience

  • Production experience with modern data-oriented programming languages especially with Python

  • Flask for API experience

  • PostgreSQL experience

  • Strong collaborative and communication skills

  • A passion for learning new technologies and the ability to do so quickly

  • Ability to write high-quality code efficiently

  • Experience with Agile application development

  • Knowledge and experience with several of the following:

    • Experience building APIs using a microservices architecture.

    • Bias towards test-first development practices like TDD and BDD.

Nice to Have(s):

  • Experience with Data Standards or Meta Data Standards

  • PyBase experience

  • JavaScript experience

  • Typescript experience

  • Opensearch experience

At Flexion, we live by these principles:

  • Speak openly and honestly with your colleagues and clients about problems and proposed solutions

  • Welcome and handle changing requirements and priorities with little or no warning

  • Collaborate online in small groups about 50% of the time

  • Encourage simple and minimal solutions that keep options open

  • Expect and vocally advocate for quality first

  • Offer and welcome constructive feedback as a tool for continuous team and individual growth

  • Learn new practices and techniques as the situation demands

  • Ensure the teams develop demonstrable software every week or two

  • Do what needs to be done to deliver the product or project without ego or attitude

  • Dig deep to find the root causes of problems so we can create the right solutions

  • Relentlessly improve yourself, your team, and your processes

  • Embrace AI assistants (e.g., ChatGPT, Notebook) as force multipliers to accelerate innovation, iterate faster, and maintain high-quality output.

The most efficient way to reach our recruiting team is to submit your resume through the URL provided.

The salary range for this role is $120,000 - $150,000.  At Flexion, employees enjoy comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, along with life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, and a 401(k) plan. Our people-first culture supports balance and growth with generous paid time off, referral bonuses, and a commitment to well-being and career success.
