What are Remote Python jobs?

Remote Python jobs are positions where you work primarily with the Python programming language but do so from a location outside of a traditional office, such as your home or another remote location. These jobs can include roles like software developer, data analyst, backend engineer, or machine learning engineer, all of which use Python for building applications, analyzing data, or automating tasks. Remote Python jobs are popular due to Python's versatility and the growing demand for flexible work arrangements in the tech industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Python Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Python Developer, you need strong programming skills in Python, experience with software development life cycles, and a relevant degree or professional experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, Docker, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), and frameworks such as Django or Flask is typically required, along with knowledge of remote collaboration tools like Slack and Jira. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for remote team integration and project delivery. These skills ensure efficient, high-quality code development, seamless teamwork, and the ability to meet project goals independently in a remote environment.

What Are Remote Jobs That Use Python?

Remote jobs that use Python focus on coding software and applications to meet the needs or business objectives of your employer. This may involve working with a database, customizing an existing application, or otherwise modifying software based on its expected environment. You can also find a few remote roles that allow you to teach Python instead of using it. Many remote jobs that use Python also involve coding in other common languages as necessary—Python may be the bulk of the work, but the ability to switch to other modes of programming as needed is essential for success in this field. As a remote employee or independent contractor, you may use virtual office software to coordinate with others, upload software into a central database for testing, or work odd hours to meet the needs of your client.

What is the difference between Remote Python vs Remote Data Analyst?

How do Remote Python Developers typically collaborate and communicate with their teams?

Remote Python Developers often work closely with distributed teams using collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, and GitHub. Clear communication and regular check-ins are essential for syncing on project requirements, code reviews, and troubleshooting. Developers are encouraged to document their code thoroughly and proactively update their progress to ensure smooth workflow across different time zones. This environment fosters independence and strong written communication skills, while also providing opportunities to participate in virtual standups, sprint planning, and peer programming sessions.

Job description

Overview

The Senior Development Engineer – Hands-On Data Integrations is a senior individual contributor role within the Data Services team, focused on the design, build, and day-to-day operation of production data integrations for nonprofit and mission-driven clients.

This role is deeply hands-on. The specialist spends the majority of their time writing code, configuring integrations, monitoring data flows, troubleshooting issues, and delivering working solutions. Client interaction is practical and delivery-oriented, with success measured by integration stability, accuracy, and supportability—not slide decks or abstract architecture.

This role requires a continuous, fluid transition between very technical work and speaking in plain language for non-IT client staff. The Specialist must be able to translate accounting end-user experiences into a viable technical solution design that addresses all the client’s pain points, and then translate that solution design back into plain language for the clients.

Responsibilities

Build & Run Data Integrations

  • Design, build, and maintain production-grade data integrations between CRM, ERP, finance, and operational systems.
  • Write and maintain integration code, scripts, and jobs (API calls, transformations, validation logic, scheduling).
  • Implement and support REST and SOAP API integrations, secure file transfers, and batch processes.
  • Perform hands-on debugging and root-cause analysis of integration failures and data discrepancies.
  • Monitor integrations, respond to alerts, and resolve issues to meet agreed service expectations.

Data Quality, Validation & Reconciliation

  • Implement validation rules, control totals, and reconciliation checks to ensure data accuracy across systems.
  • Identify, diagnose, and correct data mismatches and processing errors.
  • Support audit-sensitive and finance-related data flows with clear traceability and logging.

Documentation & Supportability

  • Maintain practical, usable documentation, including mappings, explanations of logic, and runbooks.
  • Ensure integrations are supportable by other team members through clear structure and standards.
  • Contribute reusable scripts, templates, and patterns to the Data Services toolkit.

Client & Team Collaboration

  • Work directly with non-profit clients to understand desired system functionality and design the appropriate solution to best meet their needs.
  • Work directly with non-profit clients to understand integration behavior, troubleshoot issues, and deliver enhancements.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Account Managers to execute the scope of integration work.
  • Provide clear, concise status updates focused on progress, risks, and resolution—not theory.
  • Assist Sales with technical feasibility and effort estimates when needed (limited, practical involvement).

Continuous Improvement

  • Improve performance, reliability, and maintainability of existing integrations.
  • Reduce manual intervention through automation and better error handling.
  • Mentor junior team members through hands-on guidance and code reviews.
  • Stay current on API changes, platform updates, and integration best practices.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in data engineering, full-stack development, or a comparable technical role with a focus on system integration and custom development.
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting/programming language (e.g., Python, C#, Java) used for data manipulation and integration
  • Extensive experience with database technologies (Postgres, SQL, NoSQL) and writing complex queries.
  • Demonstrated experience with API integration (REST, SOAP) and ETL processes/tools.
  • Previous experience with GitHub and release management processes.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines in a client-facing environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a professional services or consulting capacity.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and serverless functions.
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and their data models.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct) and their implementations
