What Are Remote Jobs That Use Python?

Remote jobs that use Python focus on coding software and applications to meet the needs or business objectives of your employer. This may involve working with a database, customizing an existing application, or otherwise modifying software based on its expected environment. You can also find a few remote roles that allow you to teach Python instead of using it. Many remote jobs that use Python also involve coding in other common languages as necessary—Python may be the bulk of the work, but the ability to switch to other modes of programming as needed is essential for success in this field. As a remote employee or independent contractor, you may use virtual office software to coordinate with others, upload software into a central database for testing, or work odd hours to meet the needs of your client.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Python Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Python Developer, you need strong programming skills in Python, experience with software development life cycles, and a relevant degree or professional experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, Docker, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), and frameworks such as Django or Flask is typically required, along with knowledge of remote collaboration tools like Slack and Jira. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for remote team integration and project delivery. These skills ensure efficient, high-quality code development, seamless teamwork, and the ability to meet project goals independently in a remote environment.

How do Remote Python Developers typically collaborate and communicate with their teams?

Remote Python Developers often work closely with distributed teams using collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, and GitHub. Clear communication and regular check-ins are essential for syncing on project requirements, code reviews, and troubleshooting. Developers are encouraged to document their code thoroughly and proactively update their progress to ensure smooth workflow across different time zones. This environment fosters independence and strong written communication skills, while also providing opportunities to participate in virtual standups, sprint planning, and peer programming sessions.

What are Remote Python jobs?

Remote Python jobs are positions where you work primarily with the Python programming language but do so from a location outside of a traditional office, such as your home or another remote location. These jobs can include roles like software developer, data analyst, backend engineer, or machine learning engineer, all of which use Python for building applications, analyzing data, or automating tasks. Remote Python jobs are popular due to Python's versatility and the growing demand for flexible work arrangements in the tech industry.

What is the difference between Remote Python vs Remote Data Analyst?

This hands-on, high impact and fully remote U.S. based role will have the opportunity to influence the future of the company.

Highlights

  • Desire to build market-leading technology that improves patient care and hospital performance.
  • Work in an entrepreneurial environment with a collaborative team.
  • Join a startup company with over 100 healthcare clients and growing!
  • Fully remote role that has a large business impact.

How You'll Contribute

  • The Senior Clinical Registry Data Migration Engineer leads the extraction, mapping, transformation, and validation of complex clinical registry datasets from a wide range of legacy platforms into the NQS platform.
  • Executing migrations, design and improve ETL frameworks, automate repeatable workflows, and mentor junior team members.
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and client implementation teams to ensure migrations are scalable, reliable, and aligned with national, state, and registry?specific requirements.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, healthcare data standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Data Architecture & Pipeline Design

  • Design, implement, and optimize repeatable ETL pipelines for large, complex registry datasets (Trauma, Burn, Surgery, EMS, etc.).
  • Evaluate and standardize tools, libraries, and patterns used for data migrations (e.g., Python based ETL frameworks, orchestration, CI/CD for data workflows).
  • Partner with platform engineering to ensure migration tools integrate cleanly with NQS APIs and core services.

Data Intake & Preparation

  • Handle large volume and complex source systems (multiple registries, multi facility extracts, mixed formats).
  • Profile datasets to identify anomalies, edge cases, and data quality issues up front, and define remediation strategies.
  • Design reusable schemas and templates for recurring client patterns.

Field Mapping & Data Transformation

  • Translate legacy fields into standardized NQS schemas across Trauma, Burn, Surgery, and related registries.
  • Design of mapping templates and crosswalks for high complexity implementations, including custom fields and site specific logic.
  • Normalize values using established rules including date/time logic, MV/SV handling, and categorical value alignment.
  • Maintain lookup files with strict adherence to formatting requirements (strings, zeros, codes, timestamps).

ETL Execution & Processing

  • Run internal ETL scripts and tools to process client datasets.
  • Identify and correct formatting issues, missing values, or malformed fields.
  • Generate JSON/XML payloads for upload and validate them against NQS schemas.

Quality Control & Validation

  • Compare source vs. converted datasets to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Validate transformed fields against expected picklists, formats, and clinical logic.
  • Document discrepancies and participate in remediation cycles.
  • Support iterative refinement of mappings based on client feedback.

Client & Internal Collaboration

  • Participate in discovery meetings with registry staff to understand legacy workflows and field usage.
  • Document decisions, anomalies, and special-case logic in migration artifacts.
  • Communicate progress, blockers, and validation findings to the Manager of Clinical Registry Data Integrations & Migrations.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as a technical lead on high visibility migration projects, coordinating work across internal and client teams.
  • Mentor and support clinical registry migration specialists, providing code reviews, technical guidance, and best practices.
  • Provide feedback to product and engineering on platform features that improve migration scalability and quality.

About YOU!

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data migration, or ETL development, ideally within healthcare, life sciences, or another regulated data domain.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one scripting/programming language commonly used for ETL (e.g., Python, R, or similar), and solid SQL skills.
  • Experience working with structured datasets: CSV, Excel, JSON, XML.
  • Hands-on experience with schema design, data modeling concepts, and data validation frameworks.
  • Strong attention to detail when working with detailed transformation rules and data-mapping logic with clinical or coded data.
  • Comfort with repetitive data cleaning, normalization, and validation tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to document findings clearly and interact with clients.
  • Experience with XSLT and/or Python
  • This role requires strong data engineering skills, deep familiarity with clinical registries, and hands-on experience building or operating ETL pipelines in a SaaS environment.

Preferred

  • Masters's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with trauma, burn, or surgical registry concepts (fields, picklists, workflows).
  • Experience with Trauma Base, V5 Collector, ImageTrend, NTRACS, or equivalent registry systems.
  • Exposure to NTDS, TQIP, ITDX, state/regional registry requirements, or Burn/QCDR standards.
  • Experience with API-driven workflows or schema validation.
